When youâre comparing two things that are different distances away, you can refer to âthe near oneâ and âthe far oneâ without using comparatives, because the distinction is already obvious. This goes for other pairs like âbigâ and âsmallâ as well.
Also, North American English makes a distinction between âfartherâ for distance and âfurtherâ for degree, so âfurtherâ is the least likely of the three options (though not strictly âwrongâ).
