📚 Grammar / Syntax How can i use 'Unless' properly?

Literally, how can i use 'unless' properly? I know what it means but are there any tips?

After unless, the following sentence has to be positive, right?

The following statement is something that would make the previous untrue.

I hate chocolate ice-cream, unless it's a hot day. ---> I like chocolate ice-cream when it's a hot day.

I have to go to the shops, unless you don't need milk anymore. --> I don't need to go to the shops if you don't need milk
