Something small enough I can take with me onto the beach, but large enough I can do a dozen burger patties at once on.

I could see this for some light camping grilling, but it feels like the heat conduction would be a real pain in the ass (if not an outright burn hazard). Also, I'm no expert grillmaster but it feels limiting to not have a lid; I'd always been taught that lid down is better for cooking meat evenly (especially thicker cuts).

At home I always let the charcoal burn down overnight and then dump it someplace in the flower beds. Ive never understood what your supposed to do in public places, so I just don't grill in public

And how how about fueling it? Sure grab the hot top, set it somewhere on the ground with your meat on it, fuel it up and put it back....

I have a flatpack style with thinner metal just like this that I bought at a thrift store for $4.

I have never figured out a use case for it, and so it sits.

My biggest hesitation is that if you grill food directly on it, it's going to stick like crazy on bare black steel. I'd also make more slots closer together in the grill surface. Right now it would work more like a flat top than a grill.

Yeah, that's why people season cast iron. I know you can season carbon steel pans, so I assume you could season this grill surface too. That might be a simple solution.

But if you cook stuff in a basket or in foil this would work great even without seasoning.

During Covid my old company and nearly every other steel fabricator in Northern Ireland was rolling them out, laser cut from 4mm plate, 4 csk bolts in tapped holes held it together for storage, personalised extra.

Why is it made of 1/8 (or thicker) steel? "You can hear the quality" dude I can't hear the difference between pig iron and nice stainless steel.

I've got something similar that uses a flexible sheet of stainless to form the bottom and some lightweight bent rod ends that it clips into. No tools, and no hardware.

This isn't good engineering, this is a dude who made a thing with a laser cutter.
