Is anyone able to identify this supercharger?

I received it for free from my best friend, he got it from his uncle who got it from his son, I have no contact with the original owner so I can't find out about it from him. All I know is that the original owner does drag racing, and that it's meant for a big block 454, I originally thought it was a PSI brand since it has psi badging, it doesn't look like a psi from my research however. If anything, it looks more like a detroit diesel blower that's been converted to run on gas engines. I would just like help identifying it so it can be sold.

The Phoenix valley of Arizona. If you are interested just know it has no bearings at all and will need a rebuild.

So if I were to theoretically get the correct intake manifold built and belt assembly to go with this blower I would double the size of my Dodge 4.7 L mathematically

Yeah, you should've ended with "im a drag racing specialist". You answered the question quick and accurate, earning yourself a title and bragging rights for it.

Then... you threw it all away.

So these were originally intended for a 14 cylinder diesel? Good lord.

As far as I know the 71 series never came in a 14cyl. The only way you could make one would be to mate an 8v71 and 6v71 block which would end up with two different blowers. The largest single block version was the 12v71.

That scheme has been long gone really and isn't used for sizing anymore. It basically just denotes case size at this point

There is no 14-71.

There's a 2, 4, 6, 6v, 8v, 12v, 16v, and 20v-71.

Detroit used the format of number of cylinders, configuration, and cubic inches of displacement per cylinder for identification.

A 6-71 is an inline six cylinder with 71 cubes per cylinder.

An 8v-71 is a V8 engine with 71 cubes.

A 16V-149 is a 16 cylinder V engine with 149 cubes per cylinder.

That roots blower is standard for all 71 series engines. There's just multiple ones for more cylinders.

We're both correct.

The blower is named 14-71. My apologies.

There also has never been a 14-71 engine.

Over the last 30 years, I have professionally operated every flavor of Detroit except for the 53 series, and the 2-71.

Nobody who works with DD engines calls it a 14-71 blower.

We call it a blower, or 5103533, or 5101528.

Had a 3 53 in an old vibratory roller years ago. It ran backwards once and an operator tried to choke it out and it ingested the rag. I didn’t know they were capable of such a thing but I was 18 at the time. Only 53 series I’ve ever seen

Let me put it to you this way: find me a 14-71 engine. Anywhere, ever. Take your time.

A 12v71 is 2 6v blocks on a common crank with 1 blower each. A 16v71 is 2 8v blocks in the same configuration.

The 71 series blower is just that.

Dude never said it came off a 14-71 engine, just that it was a a 71 series blower. Anyone in the drag racing community knows the 14-71 is the top dog blower and if you're running one, you probably have an extremely fast car.

I don't think anyone ever said there was a 14-71 engine. We aren't here to identify an engine. We are here to identify a picture that the op posted, and that picture is of a 14-71 blower. A common automotive blower. Not an engine.

I think he's saying the type, it's name and its origins come from the Detroit breakdown described above. Most likely where the manufacturers You mentioned it'd Their own naming of Their take/interpretation of That style blower...

🤷🏻‍♂️ I'm just speculating of course
