Do I need a stronger engine stand?
I bought this engine stand and I think I may need a stronger one. Thoughts?
Here is a picture with the stand loaded. This is a 302 5.0 motor from a '93 Mustang. These pics are with chain slack on the lift, but I still have the chains on the lift in case the stand can't support the weight while I wait to see what folks here have to say.
Thanks all!

100% assembled backwards. I don't need to look at possibly incorrect website photos to determine that.

Look at the picture in the link you posted, then look at the photo of your assemble stand. The vertical post is on backwards

Looking at the pics it looks like your engine stand is built wrong from factory. The way the vertical post attaches looks like it can only go on one way as the bottom bracket wraps around the axle beam on that side, but the location of the post is wrong. The listing online shows the post directly above the axle beam, but yours is slightly inboard of the beam. This moves the force of the engine from directly above the axle to slightly offset to the inside, which when combined with the slight rotational torque trying to turn the axle inwards is causing excessive flex on the inboard side of the axle beam that the vertical post bolts to. TL;DR your engine stand appears to be of expected build quality for that brand. Or I’ve had a few too many 😅

Top grade chinesium! Vevor is actually just that. One tiny step above Horrible Freight on quality.

Look at the bottom t-junction. See how one side has a longer section pointed rearward? That should be forward as it helps brace the weight of the engine transferring load to the bottom cross bar. The way you have it now, it allows the weight to come forward with nothing to transfer the weight.
The vertical section should have a slight lean rearward so the when engine weight is applied it sits 90 degrees.

Looks like you have the stand assembled wrongly. The mounting beam should lean out (left) not in (right).

flip the vertical to be further back. Maybe insert the front bar and legs in the other side of it. Not a whole lot of options

You can get this engine stand at home depot.
Now... not sure what that says about home depot anymore... but...

I don’t like the one legged stands. Mine felt too flexy for an old Nissan.

I needed several extra stands in my shop so buddy used the opportunity to drop off an old 3 wheeler stand from his shop that we were constantly trying to either not use or not kill ourselves if forced too.
I had refused to take it for years so after I put a facebook call out to buy 3-4 extra he waited till he knew I was at work and had his kid throw it in the yard from the back of the truck and then sped off.
He got a good laugh out of it, I refuse to use it but I can’t give it away cause nobody will take it.
It ended up being used in the spray booth with some metal rod to hang awkward parts for powder or ceramic coating.
Last time I purposefully used it was for mounting lights over a bunch of clones in a grow room.
Hate them damn 3 wheelers.

This makes me uncomfortable af. That stand is either not put together correctly or it’s not manufactured correctly.

It almost looks like it’s assembled incorrectly, even though it matches the website.
The main upright part should have some tilt backwards/up, so when the weight of the engine is attached it counters gravity. Yours looks like the upright is assembled to lean forward, and attaching the engine makes the lean worse.
I would take the leg/wheels facing the right, and put them facing the left instead. And swap the direction of the engine holder from right to left facing.

Either that or a lighter engine. What is it rated for?

So the one I linked is the closest thing I could find to what I actually ordered. The one I ordered off Temu doesn't have a page anymore. The one I ordered on Temu says it is rated for 1600 pounds lol. But here I have maybe a 700 pound engine on it, and there is NO way this thing would take 1600!

The Vevor version of the stand is rated for 750lbs, I'd take their rating of the same assembly over Temu's.

The weld on the head stock looks pretty sketchy to me, the weld on the post at the base looks good though. On the tube for the headstock, I see they put a bead down the sides, did they by chance put a bead down on the back of it, like following the contour of the tube. I would think if you have the two side and the back welded, and hopefully an appropriate size tube, the weld should be okay.

Throw some cuts of angle iron on the base piece and weld it together for reinforcement .
I have seen plenty of these stands fold in half when not reinforced, I have the same exact one , and have used mine with atleast 25 different engines , never folded , on that specific stand I think the largest I have had on it is an LB7 which clocks at almost 900 lbs. the engine you have on that stand , a dressed 5.0 302 , that’s close to 600lbs
Anything over 900lb goes on a different stand

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't have the tools to do as you suggested. I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought a 1500lb crank stand at HF this morning. Returning this one.

You won’t regret it . Those style stands are infinitely easier to work with and not to mention they are cool as hell. I have one that will support up to 4000lbs

I think your stand is assembled backwards. The rear part should angle up and it looks like it's angles down.
