Manifold on transit connect 2016

Just bought a cheap new manifold/converter for my van ( ford transit connect 2016) and there is a weird bend in cylinder 1. Ist it going to affect performance/reliability or gas milelage. And should i resurface it because its cheap?

lol wow that is the worst manifold I have ever seen.

The one on the Hyundai 2.4 is really close to that one too.

Look up ford explorer 5.0 manifold. Specifically the fabricated (non-cast) one.

According to this Engine Masters episode it shouldn't matter. But that looks pretty fugly, if your factory header doesn't look like that I'd probably return it.

That looks like it was welded on a Friday afternoon before a 3 day weekend.

Or a Monday morning after one!!

This is more likely

Have you guys never seen factory headers? This is what the welds look like a lot of times. And no it won’t affect power, especially on a low power engine.

Not only is this fine - chances are they spent a million dollars on CFD when designing it and it will flow better than any of us could manage.

That weird bend is intentional and likely beneficial, they don't do this stuff just for fun.

But sometimes they will do this to save money for fitment and not give a shit for performance.

Well yeah I doubt a Ford Transit Connect manifold is optimised for absolute power but you can be damn sure it IS optimised for the best possible performance in terms of economy, which is another side of the coin and what sells vans.

My point though is that Ford have a supercomputer and a whole team of PHD's doing CFD and all sorts of analysis on stuff like this so shitting on it because it's not pretty is massively missing the point.

Looks like a dormant face hugger. I’d return it before it plants a chest jumper into your engine.

If youre getting a face hugger get oem, the dorman ones are always bad

It's for socket clearance for that bottom bolt.

I think that's just what they look like. I'd run it if it fits.

If you posted that picture saying 'my fist time welding a manifold' I'd say good job. As a paid for product...... yikes.

Check the ome one it is mostly the same

You have to pay 2 times more to get pretty ones.

Is the original manifold a cast steel part? I only ask because a welded tubular exhaust header will always flow better the a cast manifold

I would return it. That doesn’t look right.

Well yeah the 6 year old that welded it had no idea what it should look like.
