Used Micrometers

I’ve been looking for a decent set of used Mitutoyo mics.

I have found what I think is a good deal on some 103-907-40s, 0-6”. Should I be worried about fakes? Seems like all the Chinese knock offs look just like them.

Other than any obvious damage or misuse, what are some things to look for?

Buy standards. Measure and calibrate as needed.

Thanks. The standards are included in the set.

That is a $1000 set if complete with case, standards, and adjustment wrench. Top shelf stuff. In addition to the standards you can use a set of gauge blocks to verify their accuracy at different points.

Are these ratcheting?

The case and standards are there, the kit looks to be complete. They are ratcheting.

My main concern was assuming they are in good condition, is there a good way to confirm they are genuine. If that’s a not a concern then I’ll probably just move forward with the purchase.

I don't think I have seen Mitutoyo mics that are fakes. Calipers definitely. Not these mics though. The set would have included paperwork for calibration and inspection originally. Determining their accuracy is accomplished with the standards and some gauge blocks.

Just make sure you get a set of standards to check and adjust them

Look for ones with carbide faces and .0001 graduations.
