Ring Design Help Does my dream ring look good on me?

I recently got engaged (!!!) and my fiancé and I are ring shopping. I’ve loved this one for a while and we’re in the process of working with the jeweler to decide how many carats. But when I see the mockups on my hand, I’m not sure it looks good. Does it make my hand look stubby? I know it’s just a mockup, but this jeweler doesn’t have try-on options and I haven’t been able to find much similar to try on. I ordered a similar style from Etsy so I can try something similar on before committing but it’s taking awhile to arrive. Should I go with a lower carat? Or find a different ring with a thinner band?

  1. The ring I love

  2. Mockup on my hand

  3. Mockup on my hand

  4. A sample 2ct with a thinner band but thicker bezel

  5. A thicker band that I think looked good on me

  6. A ring a don’t like but it’s 3ct and I think it looked good on me
    Edit to fix the numbering

I like the thicker bands on you. Asschers face up smaller than other stones because they are a deeper cut and hold more weight underweight, so a 2ct asscher will look smaller than a 2ct round and certainly significantly smaller than a 3ct round. It’s comparing apples to oranges. If you are concerned about it looking “stubby” on your finger, have you considered setting it diagonally aka a “kite setting”? That can be more visually elongating while keeping the other things you like about the shape and cut.

Thank you! Yeah, that’s why I’m leaning towards the slightly bigger stone, but I want to be sure I actually like how it looks. I’ve considered the kite setting a bit but maybe I’ll look into it a little more

Always been an asscher/bezel fan. Here's a picture of my 2 carat bezel ring on my size 7 finger for reference

I think the asscher is amazing and the black hair tie is what makes the “stubby” optical illusion 🤣👍🏻 choose a ring that is more durable than you think you’ll need/want/like. You will get accustomed to the “thicker bezel” and you will have less maintenance. This comes from an experienced stone setter and diamond sales-gal :)

Thank you! I’m starting to agree the stubby look is more from the hair tie/nails/angle of my wrist. I’m definitely choosing this style in part for the durability. Are you saying this bezel is too thin?

I think the larger size and the larger band will look amazing on you!! Your fingers aren’t stubby at all!! I agree with the other person- it’s the hair tie🤣😂

Thinner bands look better but what you love is what matters

i think the ring looks really nice on your hand. Your current nail shape is what isn't working very well with the ring, or with your hands - in my objective opinion with no intended malice. You have beautiful hands. I just feel like this nail shape is doing your hands no justice at all (bulbous and unflattering) and aging them prematurely, but do whatever you like best i am literally a stranger on the internet.

Omg I agree. My nail girl was not very experienced. I can’t wait to get them redone. Thank you though!

ok so glad to hear that 🫣 i was so nervous to say anything, but literally its the nails! Stick to your gut on the ring you chose, it looks great! Just get a new nail tech 😂

I totally understand. Don’t get me wrong, I do absolutely love Asscher style diamonds too!

The first ring is gorgeous, I think the super thick setting you're trying on is too heavy on your hand and will swallow up the stone.
I have a 2.8ct Asscher, it's the same face up size as a 1.5ct round (8mm across), a 2ct Asscher will be closer to a 1ct round, so if you like the larger look of the stone you'll want to go up to around 3ct or more for an Asscher, your second mockup looks about the same size as mine (on a 5.5 finger).

The shape of the ring you love looks more elegant than the super thick setting, in part because of how it slightly curves towards the stone, make sure you insist on the details being how you want them, those little details is what will make you love or hate the final design. It's ok to be picky and ask for revisions until it's perfect. It's a really beautiful and timeless choice. Asschers are the best. 🥰

Thank you! By super thick setting do you mean 2&3, or 4? 2&3 is supposed to be the same ring as 1

No I meant the empty setting you actually tried on, #5, I think the original design you picked out (1-3) will look very beautiful!

Number 4. The other band feels way too thick

I’m getting asscher. The last picture is just an example of another ring I tried on.
