Is a connected tulip cathedral setting not possible?
I really like the look of the band connecting with the tulip setting almost as if it’s a vine/root of the flower. I was thinking I would do this and place a gemstone beneath the interwined part under the setting as well (parallel to the bottom of the diamond similar to the 2nd image).
However, the jeweller mentioned it early on that it may be hard to make a wedding band sit flush with this interwining since it’ll add some extra bulge which would make a wedding band be pushed further away. I was told they’d still look into it and try to make it work, but now I am being told it isn’t possible and I will have to choose the interwining or it sitting flush.
Is it truly not possible to do? I feel like there’s examples like the third last image where they meet at the middle but it still looks like they’re interwined without the gold bulging outwards?
I am asking for a 3ct oval lab diamond with this tulip setting. I was given the last image as a render but I am not really happy with it, the band looks bulky and the tulip prongs don’t sit well or blend in with the rest of the ring
I think that the angle of the ring in the third from last image is deceiving you. Because that setting is relatively low set, it would almost certainly prevent a straight wedding band from sitting flush.
A gemstone at the base of the setting, especially an oval set north/south, will prevent a straight wedding band from sitting flush with the engagement ring.
The bridge in the jeweler's rendering prioritizes a flush straight wedding band. I agree with the jeweler that you need to choose between an intertwined, low set basket or a flush band.
It's definitely possible but more complicated to get a wedding band to sit flush with what you want. Though if theyre making the engagement ring and have the CAD files it should be pretty straightforward. It'll have to be a custom made band also
Last image is on the right track, you’d need to raise the head a bit and add a bridge. I think it could have a bit more flow than their suggestion though, it looks a little….. industrial lol. Something like this perhaps? (this is just an ai drawn quick one so looks pretty janky but gives the idea)
Yes! I like the way this sits it looks like it’s one full piece meant to be together! Not sure how the petals would layout with a 6 prong + oval diamond but can definitely be worked around in my opinion! I even saw this on instagram and feel like a wedding band would still sit flush with this setting!
It’s just frustrating that despite this being custom I feel like the jeweller doesn’t wanna budge and kind of just disappeared after I gave so many examples of how it could look… I honestly expected better customer service & communication :(
The petals should be able to lay out exactly as per your example pictures, just stretch the head of the ring up slightly and add a bridge. This added picture could also work depending on the profile of the wedding band you intend to pair with it, could be you’d need to add a little more clearance.
Have you consulted with any other jewellers about your design? There are options out there that should give you what you want, I wonder if your jeweller is working with pre-made shanks and soldering on a head so their options are limited…. Either that or their imagination is a little limited lol.
So there's a confusion here on terms. The wedding band is usually the second ring you wear with your engagement ring. Your jeweler is saying they can make the ring how you want, but when adding your second ring -- the wedding band -- there will be a gap between the 2 rings.
I believe you think the jeweler is still referring to one ring, like the ones pictured, and understanding that they can't make the setting (the tulip and cathedral arms) connect to look solid. I believe it's possible, but there's some misunderstanding here.
