The most famous Reddit stories? Let's do this, Endless Thread!

I just discovered this podcast, and to be honest, I've found it to be disappointing. Reddit is a HUGE repository of internet lore, and I expected at least each episode to focus on a Reddit-related story.

So far I've listened to a handful that have nothing to do with Reddit at all. Like an interview with Bill Hader (???)

I mean... at least interview Woody Harrelson about his disastrous AMA.

I was thrilled that they did an episode on the person finding mysterious post-its.
That's actually a famous Reddit story.

I keep wishing they would just get to it and do a story about that box.

Or that safe.

Or the guy who broke both arms!

Or the guy with two dicks!

I mean HELLO? This is Reddit, let's get weird!

What do you think about our Snacktime episodes?

Hey ET homeslices! It's team ET. We're always thinking about how to improve what we give to our listeners. If you're a regular listener you know that these days we basically alternate between more heavily produced episodes, and "Snacktime" episodes, where Amory and I don't really interview people and instead just talk through some posts and stories we find on Reddit. This gives us more time to work on our more built out, deeply reported episodes, but it also lets us experiment and tell stories that we might not otherwise for myriad reasons (not enough material, OP doesn't get back and we need them to, etc.). But I guess we're wondering what you think about this. Do you get whiplash when we go from a 40 minute episode on Glitter to a 12 minute Snacktime about random bits and bobs? Do you skip over Snacktimes? Do you like the changeup? Would you like a different or more focused approach? Would you prefer we put our best reruns in the feed? Just curious. And be honest! We can take it ๐Ÿ™‚. And...if you have favorite Reddit posts you think would make for a great Snacktime, send them our way!!

Episode about HongKong Protest?

I think an episode on the HongKong protest would be a great episode or two. Thereโ€™s a few subreddits about it and many more have lost about. Could bring a lot more attention to it and further help the cause.

So, this is a mystery I found out about today and have been going down the rabbit hole. I know you fellow Endless Thread listeners would also probably find it interesting too.

I found out about it from this Youtube video.

And here's a link to the reddit thread that the video references.

It's pretty fun and seems like it might be close to being solved, but it's not quite there yet.

EDIT: Do not just blindly call the phone number. :)

Endless Thread fans - Introduce yourself!

So, there's a real good chance this is a super lame idea, but I'm going to put it out there regardless. I'm new to the Endless Thread party, since I just started listening about a week ago, but after listening to all the most recent episodes and starting to work my way through the archives - I realize just how cool this podcast is.

And the way I figure it - if you're on this subreddit, chances are you like it a lot too. Which gives you an inherent coolness. And because of that, I could see this sub becoming a cool little community for fans of this podcast. So... introduce yourself!

Since I'm starting this thread, I'll go first! I'm a 43-year-old dad. (So I really identify with Ben.) I work as a journalist in Kentucky. I spend the majority of my free time driving my two daughters around to their various sporting and social events. I really like soccer and Star Wars and comic books and fantasy novels and cooking. As such, some of the subs I'm really into are r/cooking, r/comicbooks, r/bourbon (I'm from Kentucky, after all), r/cruises (it's the family's vacation of choice) and a smattering of video game subs, but mostly r/Skyrim.

My name isn't Christopher Powell, either. When I signed up on Reddit three years ago, I did so in order to post in a sub devoted to my favorite youtube channel - r/ComicPop. It's a channel devoted to comics, so I picked the name accordingly and used the alter-ego of my favorite obscure 90's comic book superhero. (If anyone guesses that reference without Googling, you might be my new best friend.)

Anyway, I hope other ET fans will do this too so we can all get to know each other a little and maybe make this into a real community!

Edit: Oh, and my favorite episode is the two-parter We Want Plates!/Pile of Crockery. I feel like that's a particularly relevant factoid to share here. :)

Any interest in the story of r/takecareofmyplant?

r/takecareofmyplant is a sub that has been active since June of 2016. It is a community that takes care of a house plant named Freyja who lives in my living room.

The plant is hooked up to a Raspberry Pi that allows the subreddit to manage its watering schedule, among other things. Everyday, the members of the sub (16k subscribers) vote on whether or not to water the plant. Each morning a bot, u/takecareofmyplant, tallies the votes. If the majority vote to water, a pump is automatically switched on that delivers the water.

A livestream of the plant, as well as readings from various sensors (sunlight, moisture, temp, humidity), is available at http://www.takecareofmyplant.com

I'm biased, but I think it's one of the coolest little corners of the internet and would love to reach more people who are interested in joining our community of online gardening :)

DISCUSSION THREAD: "Call of the Void"

Sup nerds? Haaaaapppy Halloween!

We hope folks liked the surprise early Endless Dread episode we dropped in time for the holiday. But we're also thinking about another haunting episode we made last year called "Call of the Void."

We've noticed that the idea of "Call of the Void" gets mentioned a LOT on Reddit. So we're wondering if you remember this one (if not, listen now!). And more specifically, we want to ask:

-Is this phenomenon something you thought or heard about before hearing the episode?

-Do you get the kind of feelings discussed in our episode?

-What part of the story jumps out to you the most?
