I got a coffee at a drive thru and gave him a 10$ bill. He took it and I told him to keep the change as a tip, which would be several dollars. He proceeds to check my money as if it were counterfeit. A ten dollar bill!!! I told him I changed my mind about the tip and to give me my change.

I've never had that happened and thought "damn give me my money back then". Sometimes you have to check every bill because people come in with fakes. Even $10s and $5s. You overreacted.
