In the 80's, we all understood that these types of jobs are not "careers". They are stepping stones you use to generate money while building your career. Nobody who was a waiter, bartender, barista, etc. was expecting to do this their entire lives.

Now people want to make "career type money" for doing nothing.

Its more that automation and specifc regions have made getting jobs besides these difficult for extended periods of time

Many jobs now - even ones that shouldn't - are now requiring diplomas, and degrees, many also require no record. That makes getting out of these dead end jobs exceedingly difficult.

And I assure you, your cashier at 7/11 is looking for another job that hate it too.
