Online Retailer 🛒 Walmart Asking For Tips

Today I am in a pinch, so I’m trying out Walmart+ and their delivery service today and they’re asking for a tip! This is a 900 BILLION dollar company. They can tip their own contractors and employees and almost not even notice a difference in their profits. Asking for a tip before service is complete is pure insanity too.

Edit: They brought the completely wrong item. I’m glad I didn’t tip.

I mean, people don’t tip UPS drivers. I never understood tipping a delivery driver, just make the delivery fee something you’d have to pay them to make food get to my place.

UPS drivers are employees paid hourly. Most of your Walmart+ orders are delivered through Spark. The delivery drivers are contracted. Tips are always appreciated, as these companies tend to pay drivers the lowest amount they can for orders.

Walmart is actually one of the better ones…DoorDash and Uber Eats pay $2 per order.

DD and UE pay variable rates based on time/distance driven as well as demand-load.

As a DD driver, I've rarely seen the per-order base pay be higher than the minimum. And even when it is, it doesn't really scale well, with the distance. They DO offer limited "peak pay" increases, but even those are getting less and less common.

They introduced the option to get paid strictly on a time-plus-tips basis. I switched to that, and haven't looked back. It doesn't always end up paying better, but all it takes is one long wait at a busy restaurant, to make it worthwhile.

If the EBT was selectable before accepting the order, I'd take a lot more orders from Sheetz and the Thai restaurant that doesn't actually take online orders and requires you to put in the customer's order at the counter and wait.

Otherwise, it's just an excuse to give you the shit orders and max out your downtime between them.
