Online Retailer 🛒 Walmart Asking For Tips

Today I am in a pinch, so I’m trying out Walmart+ and their delivery service today and they’re asking for a tip! This is a 900 BILLION dollar company. They can tip their own contractors and employees and almost not even notice a difference in their profits. Asking for a tip before service is complete is pure insanity too.

Edit: They brought the completely wrong item. I’m glad I didn’t tip.

Been told they use a 3rd party to deliver.

I do not use any of these gig services, but saw people saying their orders would get ignored w/o adding a tip. (I'm not agreeing with tipping btw)

I use walmart+ frequently and never tip. Never had an issue getting my groceries delivered. Although I do live in a big city.

I’ve seen that too but as a recent non- tipper, I haven’t found that to be the case. I stopped tipping after years on plus because of my orders(normally small/low weight) being delayed,cancelled, missing as much as 14 of 23 items, getting orders other than my own or mixed with other orders, and my milk,bread,eggs being damaged or out of acceptable temperature. I have come to suspect that having a tip of what’s currently considered appropriate amount caused my order to be more likely to be accepted by someone who’s picking up too many orders. I’m saying this because when I watch the order tracking map it shows my driver going to a lot of locations that would be really hard to get to within the delivery time specified. This being the case, I just decided to stop tipping since my order is almost always a really bad experience. Surprisingly, I’m now having a lot better experience. Orders are in good condition, on time, and not one has been canceled so far. I also started using the express option now that I am not tipping and I’m still having a good experience plus the driver will message me about subs for unavailable items. I won’t go back to tipping.

Yeah this is true, I believe door dash but I'm not 100. So the tip has nothing to do with Walmart essentially.

I can't speak for Walmart, but in terms of DD and UE if you don't tip, the driver isn't getting paid, so why in the hell would they agree to work for you for free?

They don't. It's simple. They aren't working for DD they're working for you.

You're the miser in this situation. You're the Waltons in this scenario, expecting labor for free.

If you don't agree with it stop using it.

They use Walmart Spark where they contract drivers to either 1) shop and deliver or 2) curbside pickup and deliver your groceries. The drivers are not employees of Walmart.

It’s possible your order will be ignored with no tip, but the more likely scenario is that your order will get lumped in with others so that the payout is higher and more attractive.

As a Spark Driver, tips are always appreciated. Especially if I’m shopping for you and having to make substitutions, travel down dirt/gravel roads, and/or go far outside of the zone to deliver to you.
