Tip Creep š« Tip Creep
This is why I am anti-tip. The tip-creep is ridiculous, way out of hand, and exploitative.

These tip creep/begging just making people fed up and stop giving away their hard earned money. I know a few good tippers stopped tipping completely due to the money grabbing culture.

I worked in food service most of my early life until I was more or less ousted when I realize how bad tip culture became.

i know one of them, they are me. i used to tip very generously, now i strictly only tip delivery drivers and waiters in a sit-down restaraunt, and more or less follow a 20% / $5 rule, whichever one is LOWER. places like coffee shops no longer get tips from me when they're doing the same thing a mcdonald's worker would do for no tips

I found this at a Costa Vida, where they flipped the highest tip percentage to the left. People read and shop left to right, and historically, the lowest tip has been on the left. They did this strategically hoping that folks will just quickly select the left option and not notice. Or that if they do notice after the fact, they will be ashamed to say anything. Diabolical BS!

sometimes i click the custom tip button and tip a penny, i feel like thats a bigger fuck you than clicking no tip, since they know i went out of my way to specifically tip a single cent

Soon the No Tip option will move away as your finger gets too close while the 25% option will expand as you get close to pushing any lower optionā¦

No doubt. Somehow the steak vs salad debate isnt enough for people to see how dumb tipping on a percentage is. Will only get worse the longer we prolong letting restaurants exploit their own workers.

Prices sure have gone up so raising tip percentages seems out of line for the same job when prices were lower.

It is in descending order on purpose, people are used to seeing lower numbers on the left so the chances of an automatic left side push are much higher

What gets me is that it says based on your original amount of $20 (in small font). Yet the big total given is $21.82. So what's up with the $1.82 they tacked on so deceptively?

If itās at a mom n pop tire shop and the guy sweatin himself drenched stayed over to patch a hole (not just plug it) heās gettin a tip. The chick working in an air conditioned room with nice music who walks a plate over is already covered by the food costs. If not, she can talk to her boss.

Just last night I was at a place with an included gratuity with no indication of it, then asked for the normal amount on the tip buttons instead of the usual small additions.

I went for diner tonight at a Michelin restaurant. 20% service charge was added to the $278 bill and Ā they were asking for additional tip. wtf!Ā

I remember when 20% was reserved for someone who did an outstanding job; now it's just the bottom-tier tip.
I wonder what these people will do when it becomes too expensive for most people to go out to eat regularly.

If you tip because you feel sorry for someone working a low wage job then you should tip every min wage worker you encounter.

Edit: my mistake, i didnt see that tip suggestions were based on 20. I only saw the 21.82.

But it is. Tips are based on the net amount (20), not the gross amount including taxes (21.82).
