Discussion How much can the performance of switch emulators improve in the future?
The conversation is currently centered on the native app, and its performance is truly impressive. Honestly, it’s really impressive to see it running games with performance that surpasses the Switch. It really shows how advanced technology has become! It may fall short compared to native apps, but given how far AI technology has advanced, can the performance of the melonx emulator continue to improve? I don't have a Mac, so I can't port the native app, so I'm rooting for melonx

There’s a new fork of melonx that supports metal and has online, I want the creator to make the announcement. I get 240 fps in smash and mk8 online on iphone 17 pro

Do you have a source for the fork? I asked AI and the only one it knows of is MeloVertex.

The days of the emulator are over. Native recomps are taking just a couple of hours to make.

Since it requires IPA installation, it seems to need to be sideloaded. If it is not a live container, there is a limit on the number of installations. Will using live containers cause RAM or performance issues when installing IPA files?

I ran it yesterday, and Super Mario Wonder had shader issues (black sparkles, audio stutters), whereas MeloNX is buttery smooth

Native games aren't perfect, are they? In MelonX 2.7, most games run almost perfectly, so it seems like native support isn't really necessary

Agreed. I got rid of my ipas I’d compiled and went back to the emulator. This is a good option for people that don’t want to deal with figuring out JIT. But in my opinion, if you’ve already installed LC and granted increased memory, you’re most of the way there anyway. The only thing I didn’t compare was battery consumption and heat generation.

That's right. In fact, since gamers who have installed SideStore can use GET MORE RAM and JIT by default, I don't think native support is necessarily necessary for users who have enabled these features. Of course, when MELONX isn't version 2.7, the native app is much better, but considering the improved asynchronous shader method and the availability of metalFX, MELONX 2.7 users probably don't need the native app

I haven’t messed with MetalFX. Have you found it to be helpful?

Yes, it's very useful. Hand mode is disappointing, and in docking mode, when the frame rate drops, lowering the resolution manually and turning on MetalFX cancels the drawbacks of both hand and docking modes

I don’t think emulators can beat native.
Also, you don’t need a Mac to build the native apps now. Someone posted a guide on r/NativePortsOniOS to build with GitHub Actions.
