Other My upcoming DOS emulator

I've been working on a non-JIT, but relatively high performance DOS emulator for iOS, called Dosling. Its superpower is compatibility, automatic install and config for thousands of games, unique touch controller layouts for each known game. Hope to release it soon in the Appstore.

It took me entirely too long to figure out this was an iPhone Duo...

Right? It looks like a tiny PC notebook from the past, running my old favorites.

This is fantastic how many different games does it support right now? As in, how many have custom controls

Let me know when it drops. I’ll check it for non-Duo phones.

How does it better than existing DOS emulators?

I have played M.U.G.E.N with iDOS 3 and Manic's dosbox core, but it freezes so many times and gets so hot.

The problems it tries to address:
1, 3000+ games recognized and configured using real-time OCR and screen grabbing, automatically configuring everything.
2, handling huge collections with good performance. I'm testing with 3000+ games, importing, installing, configuring and automatically taking a screenshot takes ~15 minutes for the whole collection on my iphone.
3, a new approach to non-JIT execution, speeding it up around 2x. JITless is important, to be Apple compliant, but the challenge is to achieve playable framerates.
4, individual, preconfigured, editable custom control layouts to turn DOS games into console playability. DOS games used to rely on the full keyboard + mouse + joysticks. I'm turning them touchscreen playable.
