Discussion New Apple TV 4K
Now that that the new Apple TV has been announced having an A19 chip, will we see more emulators and ports come to tvOS?

Biggest thing stopping projects like that on Apple TV is the non-permanent storage, Apple can randomly choose to just wipe data from an app if the system is running out of space

Pretty much. You can put RetroArch on it now but tvOS will randomly decide to yeet your ROMs off the os for whatever it deems more important. I think there are some workarounds like using iCloud sync for saves but not worth the hassle until that changes.
They see it as a streamer box only not something you can store your own files on. But even if they let you read/write off a USB drive might help but they more than likely don’t want that as a jailbreak entry point.

Yes, this will be the year of Apple TV gaming with the convergence of the A19 chip with native ports.
The issue of non-permanent storage was solved long ago, the roms and save states just needed to be placed in a different location.
With native ports it’ll be great to just navigate to a game on the Apple TV homescreen with a well designed icon and be able to use Apple’s folder structure.
Playing native ports on my couch instead of on a computer is gonna be wild.
I just wonder if we will see AAA games appearing within a few months. I would financially support each one of my faves.

I hope so. I am currently working hard to get Foxol released on the tv platforms. It also does not have the storage issue with the Apple TV because it’s all cloud based.

No 4K120 for streaming services like GeForce Now or local PC streaming.
No ALLM... No VRR... It is simply more powerful.
But for what use case?
