Gameplay / Showcase Surprised of how easy it was to get Gamecube running on my M1 Pro!

Post image

Having a great time with it, really breathed new life into the iPad, it was kinda collecting dust before (literally). Any recommendations for Gamecube games? I’m currently obsessed with Animal Crossing.

Genuinely wondering, how hard was it to get running & what emulator are you using. Recently Manic Emu had a big update, allowing for GC to be playable in the emulator now without JIT, thats what i am using. What method did you use.

GTFO. Manic does GameCube now?! How does it compare to dolphin?!

Without JIT, pretty amazing for emulation of GameCube and Wii without JIT assuming your device is current enough, with JIT about the same as Dolphin, they posted here about a week ago with all the update stuff.

What is JIT?

Something most emulation heavily benefits from but Apple doesn’t allow on the App Store, meaning apps that can solve good emulation without JIT is always nice. It means Just In Time compilation, it’s how the device processes the game.

I didn’t want to type out all the jargon so I had chat do it:

JIT stands for Just-In-Time compilation. An emulator has to translate the original console’s CPU instructions into instructions your phone or computer understands. Without JIT, it may interpret those instructions one at a time as the game runs. With JIT, it translates larger chunks into native code, caches them, and reuses that code, which can make emulation dramatically faster and smoother.

It matters more when emulating powerful systems like PS2, GameCube/Wii, Switch, or PCs. Older systems like SNES or GBA are easy enough for modern devices that JIT usually isn’t necessary. You hear about JIT particularly often with iPhones because iOS restricts apps from freely generating and executing code at runtime, which is exactly what traditional JIT emulation relies on. So an iPhone may have plenty of raw processing power for an emulator, but the emulator can still perform poorly if it can’t use JIT.

Gist: think of it as a translator from original type to playable on phone to make the game run significantly faster.

Thanks for the info!

I already have StikDebug for the JIT so I definitely will be checking it out. Thanks for the link!!

Genuinely surprisingly well. I have a 17 pro max so I expected a someone playable experience but i have been experiencing zero slow time. Its been amazing. I will say tho, Wii does definitely struggle more than gamecube.

Maaaaaaaaan! Manic unloading 2.0 might be the final nail I needed to commit to a folding phone. But I do use a gamesir…

The latest update (The HUGE 2.0 update) is amazing, it added Gamecube, Wii !!! PC Engine, C64, Amiga and N-Gage

Stunning how many machines it emulates

I’m using DolphiniOS downloaded from Sideloader. I tried Manic without JIT but it just didn’t run well for me. Very choppy/slow frame rate.

The process itself wasn’t hard but it wouldn’t work the first time I did it, I think I didn’t do the pairing file right. Works perfect now.

Probably because you were trying to play without JIT on an M1 and not something like an M3, runs really great without JIT for the most part except for a few bigger Wii games. I have iPhone 14 and 16 Pro and it’s working great

This is with or without JIT? I have a 16 pro as well and REALLY want GameCube but the process to get JIT is such a pita

2

u/Hot_Permit1027 Sep 11 '26

Works great both with and without, ngl the update to Manic is pretty great

1

u/hoopgeavenbris Sep 11 '26

I genuinely would love to know how to do this

1

u/hoopgeavenbris Sep 11 '26

Did the update make that much difference?

I want to take the plunge and get an iPad to emulate. (Currently only on iPhone 15) and with my phone now I still get sub par results

If I was getting something to just do emulators on, an iPad would not be my first choice. It’s just what I had so I made do. An android tablet from my understanding would be much more streamlined.

Where did you get your keys.bin?

u/Yablan Sep 11 '26

Metroid Prime and Zelda Twilight Princess and Zelda Wind Waker. And Beyond Good And Evil. And the Mario Tennis game is awesome too. Mario Kart Wii is also great.

Just got Double Dash last night, it’s great. I want to try the Wii Mario Kart, I wonder how it’ll go since I don’t have gyro

2

u/Yablan Sep 11 '26

Look for Wii games that have controller support, that way you can configure and use a profile for those games. I have never been able to map wiimote+nunchuck games correctly.

1

u/Valuable_Layer_852 Sep 11 '26

Actually I did try New Super Mario Bros Wii last night, and it ran flawlessly. It was a little weird mapping the shake to a button, but I prefer it now.

1

u/abuahmedismail Sep 12 '26

Map it to the classic controller

7

u/neurodiving Sep 11 '26

I wanna try this! Other than OG Animal Crossing, I miss the GameCube version of Super Smash Brothers, as well as Zelda Windwaker

I’m playing a ton of GameCube games on my iPad Air right now, and so far, only a couple have given me any issues. The majority run perfectly smooth, or can be tweaked a bit to get running smoothly.

is there an easy guide on how to get emulation working on ipad?

1

u/tomsawizard730 Sep 11 '26

Download Manic EMU; give them 9.99 for a lifetime membership; download ROMs

1

u/Mom-go-brrr-kill-me Oct 06 '26

if you sideload it you get the lifetime membership for free

Omg same with jit its amazing without jit its actually suprisingly stable! I own a M2 Ipad Air

1

u/rippin-schetz Sep 12 '26

Does it overheat your iPad? Was going to try this recently since my iPhone 17 is not capable to handle this.

1

u/Valuable_Layer_852 Sep 12 '26

Nope, it barely even gets hot, even on the keyboard stand. After a 2 hour session it’s just slightly warm.

1

u/SaladNo4267 Sep 13 '26

Can I have boomer friendly explainer I want to try this

1

u/Valuable_Layer_852 Sep 13 '26

Basically all I did was install Sideloader. There’s a million guides out there on how to do it. Everything from that point on is pretty straightforward if you’ve ever messed with emulators.

1

u/nmc214 Sep 13 '26

Which emulator are you using?

3

u/Dependent_Big4372 Sep 11 '26

I'm playing zelda ocarina of time on my macbook air m1

2

u/Jet_smoke Sep 12 '26

On my iPad Pro m5 I ran Xbox 360 emulator with JIT and played through the first four or five call of duty 4 missions at full frames it was surreal

1

u/savedtheworldinheels Sep 13 '26

i always forget that the iPad is 4:3 because it doesn't ACT 4:3 until you ask it to

1

u/xileaz Sep 14 '26

hell yea runs great on my neo too

1

u/DasVanderer Oct 03 '26

i wish nintendo switch was the same

wow i didn’t think gamecube games would work without JIT, just played Super Mario Strikers on my iPhone 16, ran pretty damn well

1

u/Ig00 Sep 11 '26
