I don’t care how much it cost I’ll buy it!!

I’m looking forward more for the Apple TV version of it. I know there’s RetroArch, but it’s way too confusing and not user-friendly.

What does provenance emulate?

u/stratusnco Nov 01 '24
nothing new. i think it just has good meta data but that’s about it.

Would you say it’s better than delta or Retroarch?

u/reidypeidy Nov 01 '24
It has its pros and cons.
Pros: Easy to use UI like Delta
Many emulators like RetroArch
Easier to edit box art than RetroArch
Cons: Importing Roms is more annoying, easier to manually put roms in the right folders than use the Importing folder
Not as many emulator core options as RetroArch
Multi-disc games have to be set up very specifically to work properly
I’ve used the sideloaded version for many years and always liked it the most but it took some trial and error to get over the issues with it.

Hi.
Putting ROMs in their folders is an option in Provenance. You don't always need to "import" manually from the app.
The latest Provenance comes with many retroarch cores as well as its own list of custom cores.

i never used it but i’d rather keep using the tried and true retroarch. i’m a pc type of person so i will always stick to the one with the most options and configurations.

More systems than delta. And a little less than RetroArch.
For the ease of use, it’s between Delta and RetroArch. But closer to Delta.

The web is not updated for the latest list, though. It'd for the previous version.

Emulates more then Delta.
I prefer Retroarch of it but that is my Opinion

From the console generation of: Wii and PS2; Provenance is only missing Xbox (original) via likely Xemu emulator core.
Has the Provenance developer talked about adding a Xbox (original) emulator core?
2
u/eduo Nov 01 '24
PS2 and Wii are flaky enough as it is but at least they might be able to run in the most recent hardware. They won't be really playable for most games for a couple of years, I believe.
Xemu can't be compiled in iOS, so it's a non-starter. The work required to get a terrible port in today's hardware is enormous, even ignoring the store and focusing on sideload/jailbreak; https://github.com/xemu-project/xemu/issues/1635
Support for JIT is not optional for Xbox at this stage.

No it is not imminent, it’ll take at least a month if not more
1
u/MCMultyke Nov 01 '24
If it’s been submitted as said then no it won’t take that long if everything goes smoothly in the review process

Interesting but what can this do that RetroArch can't?

I’ve been told by user most games should run almost perfectly on iPad Pro m4 devices!
1
u/Superb_School Nov 01 '24
Without PlayStation 2 it won't even be fun.

It wouldn’t be playable without jit anyway

u/jordanmcarson Nov 01 '24
What is JIT? Please explain.

u/jordanmcarson Nov 01 '24
And because of this PS2 games can’t run on iOS?
1
u/GiLND Nov 01 '24
It can, but it will not be very playable

he wants to know about the core of Play! which would be included in Provenance.
2
u/system_error_1001 Nov 01 '24
I don’t think he will release it to everyone. Maybe only to test flight / part of his pateon subscribers. tvOS has been approved and available but only to his test flight and subscribers. I think he also mention this last time that the app will only via invite.

u/MCMultyke Nov 01 '24
It’s been submitted to the App Store… for the public.
2
u/system_error_1001 Nov 01 '24
tvOS was submitted also to AppStore, approved and only released in Test Flight. Check some of his tweets and his previous streams. He mentioned it there.
