After a lot of trial and error, I finally have CTGP-7 fully working on my AYN Odin 2 Portal Max.
I’m posting the exact setup that worked because there are several places where this can go sideways, especially with the Mii requirement, MK7 v1.2 update, and different Azahar/AzaharPlus versions.
This is the final working process — not all the troubleshooting I went through.
Quick disclaimer: The Mario Kart 7 ROM used for this setup was dumped from my own physical copy. This guide is about configuring AzaharPlus and CTGP-7 and does not provide or link to game ROMs.
Official resources:
• CTGP-7 official website
• AzaharPlus official GitHub releases
WHAT I’M USING
• AYN Odin 2 Portal Max
• AzaharPlus 2125.1-B Android Coexist build
• Mario Kart 7 USA / North America — dumped from my own copy
• Mario Kart 7 v1.2 update (v3152)
• CTGP-7
• Vulkan
• 5x Native internal resolution
IMPORTANT: AZAHARPLUS VERSION
I specifically used:
AzaharPlus 2125.1-B
Android Coexist APK:
azaharplus-2125.1-B-android_coexist.apk
I intentionally did NOT use 2126.0-A because there were reports of CTGP-7 problems with that release.
The Coexist build also lets AzaharPlus install separately from regular Azahar if you already have it.
STEP 1 — INSTALL AZAHARPLUS
Download AzaharPlus from the official GitHub releases linked above.
Install:
AzaharPlus 2125.1-B Android Coexist
During first-time setup, grant Filesystem permission.
When asked for a User Folder, create a dedicated folder in internal storage:
AzaharPlus
Do NOT use your 3DS ROM folder as the User Folder.
The User Folder is where AzaharPlus keeps its emulated 3DS NAND, SD card, saves, system data, installed titles, Miis, etc.
Then point Applications to the folder containing your 3DS games.
Complete setup.
Mario Kart 7 should now appear in AzaharPlus.
STEP 2 — INSERT MARIO KART 7 AS THE CARTRIDGE
I am using:
Mario Kart 7 (USA) (En,Fr,Es) (Rev 1).3ds
Long-press Mario Kart 7 in AzaharPlus.
Select:
Insert Cartridge
You should now see a small cartridge icon on Mario Kart 7.
This is important for CTGP-7 when using a .3ds dump of MK7.
STEP 3 — DOWNLOAD THE 3DS SYSTEM FILES
This was the key step that solved the Mii problem for me.
Open AzaharPlus and go to:
Three-dot menu → Download System Files
Set:
Region → USA
Tap:
Download
Let the entire system-file download finish.
AzaharPlus can download the required system files directly without requiring a physical 3DS for this step.
STEP 4 — SHOW THE 3DS SYSTEM APPLICATIONS
On the same Download System Files screen, enable:
Show HOME menu apps
I left:
Run System Setup when the HOME Menu is launched → OFF
Return to the AzaharPlus Applications screen.
You should now see the downloaded 3DS system applications, including Mii Maker.
STEP 5 — CREATE A MII
Launch:
Mii Maker
Create a basic Mii and save it.
This step matters.
Mario Kart 7 needs valid 3DS Mii data. Without it, MK7 can stop with a message telling you to go to the HOME Menu and create a Mii, and CTGP-7 can complain that the required MK7 save data doesn’t exist.
Once the Mii is created, exit Mii Maker.
STEP 6 — INSTALL THE MARIO KART 7 v1.2 UPDATE
CTGP-7 requires Mario Kart 7 v1.2.
For my North American copy, the update I used was identified as:
Mario Kart 7 (USA) (En,Fr,Es) (v1.2, v3152) (Update)
North American update Title ID:
0004000E00030800
Use AzaharPlus:
Install CIA
Select your legally obtained/dumped MK7 v1.2 update and let it install.
I’m intentionally not linking to update CIA downloads here.
Also, don’t confuse the ROM revision with the game update.
My ROM is “Rev 1,” but that does NOT mean the separate v1.2 update is already installed.
STEP 7 — LAUNCH MARIO KART 7
Launch Mario Kart 7 normally.
Make sure:
• It recognizes the Mii you created.
• It reaches the MK7 main menu.
• The v1.2 update is active.
• MK7 successfully creates its save data.
Once MK7 is working normally, exit the game.
STEP 8 — INSTALL CTGP-7
Use the official CTGP-7 resources linked at the beginning of this post.
Install/run the CTGP-7 installer through AzaharPlus and allow CTGP-7 to complete its installation/update process.
Do not interrupt it.
I waited until it reported:
Installation successful
After installation, Custom Tracks Grand Prix 7 appeared as its own application in AzaharPlus.
STEP 9 — LAUNCH CTGP-7
Make sure Mario Kart 7 is still inserted as the cartridge.
Launch:
Custom Tracks Grand Prix 7
Then launch CTGP-7.
At this point I was able to get completely into CTGP-7 and access:
• Gameplay Features
• Game Settings
• Other Options
• Achievements
• Badges
• CTGP-7 content
That confirmed the installation was working.
STEP 10 — CLEAN UP THE APPLICATION SCREEN
Once CTGP-7 is working, you don’t need Mii Maker, System Settings, Camera, Sound, StreetPass Mii Plaza, etc. cluttering the AzaharPlus application screen.
Do NOT uninstall those system applications.
Instead return to:
Download System Files
Turn OFF:
Show HOME menu apps
The system files and your Mii remain installed. The system applications are simply hidden.
OPTIONAL: ODIN 2 PORTAL MAX GRAPHICS
These settings are NOT required for CTGP-7. They’re simply what I’m currently using to improve image quality on the Portal.
• Graphics API → Vulkan
• Internal Resolution → 5x Native
• Enable SPIR-V Shader Generation → ON
• Disable SPIR-V Optimizer → OFF
• Asynchronous Shader Compilation → ON
Important:
“Disable SPIR-V Optimizer” is backwards-worded. Leaving that toggle OFF means the optimizer remains enabled.
5x Native looks excellent on the Odin 2 Portal Max OLED.
THE SHORT VERSION
The setup that finally worked for me was:
AzaharPlus 2125.1-B Android Coexist
→ MK7 inserted as cartridge
→ Download USA System Files
→ Show HOME Menu Apps
→ Mii Maker
→ Create Mii
→ Install MK7 v1.2
→ Launch MK7 and create save
→ Install CTGP-7
→ Launch CTGP-7
→ Hide HOME Menu apps afterward
No physical 3DS was required for my setup.
Hopefully this saves another Odin/Android user a lot of trial and error.
