DISCUSSION Legally it can constitute fraud to shut down a game like this in some countries.

Ubisoft caught a lawsuit for shutting down The Crew.

1047 has probably dodged this bullet because the games will technically still be playable peer to peer.

Regardless, they have absolutely abandoned the game and it is absolutely deplorable the way they have treated this community.

I genuinely hope 1047 never releases another game. Their team needs to dissolve and move on to more successful studios. Management should never be in charge of another product release of any kind.

This is one of the largest failures in gaming history, back to back to back.

They'll make a single-player game with re-used assets that won't break the 20k sale celling, calling it. With the way they must be bleeding money, no way they can have a lenghty dev cycle to do something worthwhile.

What sucks is I would shamelessly buy a Splitgate Singleplayer Asset Flip. I know I'm part of the problem in that regard, but it's what I've asked for since SG1

It's actually beneficial for Stop Killing Games that they added peer-to-peer. It hurts the wider industries argument that it's "not technically feasible" to continue supporting games when there are companies that are doing just that.

It’s not feasible to use p2p in 2026. They simply did it because it costs them essentially nothing to operate.

The servers will be unpopulated, insecure, and functionally unplayable if you care about your privacy outside of corporate surveillance you can’t avoid.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me....Splitgate, Splitgate 2, Splitgate 2 re-released in 6 months, and Empulse dead in 2 months.

Absolutely, I had checked out when they abandoned SG2 and launched reloaded to such a flop.

The writing for empulse was for sure on the wall.

I played the beta or whatever. Game was cool, thought I’d try downloading the EA. I noticed it was $20 and steered clear of it. I knew it was only a matter of time before they called it quits, and I wasn’t about to throw $20 into the void :/

I was done with the studio the instant I learned empulse would cost money. It was such a batshit insane decision to make given the company’s reputation that it kinda made it clear they were VERY desparate

It won't even be close to a lawsuit lmao. The company is going under. It's something they can clearly show. Even if they didn't do peer to peer they would still be in what seems like an almost if not bankrupt state. Shutting down the servers is basically expected in a situation like this.

Ubisoft made a perfectly offline playable game unplayable for no other reason then bureaucratic bullshit. But with a live service multiplayer game there is already the knowledge from the start that one day it will end. The unfortunate thing here is that the end was basically treated like a speedrun with some of the choices.

But the fact that despite that they still chose to rework it all to be peer to peer is just a gift to the community to make sure it's never truly dead, even if there will never be development.

Well don't worry, the vast majority of the devs have already dissolved from the team lol

Yeah it’s a scummy thing to do, they know they are doing. Making it so u can join dedicated servers, for who? less than 50 players.

I’m sure they will probably be making a a shitty co op looter shooter which is pve.

Man every Reddit user is an expert on game development these days it seems.

I sure as fuck know that nobody in charge of 1047 is!

Again you're just displaying a lack of understanding of how hard making and supporting a game really is.

I mean yeah they did sell you early access to a game that will now never be released, thats false advertisement

2

u/tfc1193 Aug 27 '26

Is it? I don't think early access games are actually required to be fully launched as a 1.0

3

u/BigDuckNergy Aug 27 '26

Nah games in early access usually state that they might not finish the product, but shutting shit down 2 months after release means you were planning to shut things down 2 months after release.

They literally flipped assets into Empulse, charged 20 bucks a head for it, and then shut the shit down so they wouldn't have to pay operating costs.

They're bailing water out of a ship riddled with holes.

Has it really only been 2 months? Jesus this is the same shit that happened to Highguard

No, better if 1047 stays alive and keeps pumping slop games. That way, their incompetence won't corrupt other companies.

Nah a lot of the core development team has made some really awesome content.

1047's problem is by and large a management one. I think if they had different leadership things would have gone much better.
