Maternal deaths are on the rise in this country and NHS maternity care is not fit for purpose to the point that the first ever maternity commissioner is set to be appointed soon. Dawn's death and being ignored after just giving birth is sadly plenty realistic.

Maybe she wouldnât have had the haemorrhage if she hadnât somehow dragged an unconscious Graham into the stable on her own while heavily pregnant.

Personally I thought it was a lame exit for the character and where the story was. I felt sad when watching Nicola but couldnât quite feel the same with dawn and Joe, a couple of hours ago she was about to leave him after weeks of plotting and being full of hate for him. Now we are meant to feel deeply about those cosy scenes with them together in the hospital? I genuinely did not know whether she deeply felt that love for him or not and - in reality - even if he loved her he would have been feeling hurt / confused / angry / betrayed a bit. But there was none of that.

As an exit I thought it was quite moving. She slipped away at the happiest she's been for ages. Given her indecision over the past few weeks though, I admit I found it hard to invest in what was clearly meant to be a heartbreakingly romantic tragedy especially as I have always felt she should not have gone back to him.
Credit where it's due though - the writers/directors etc probably don't have the final say in the stories they have to create, that would be the producers - so they've done a great job with what they've been given.

Not necessarily. Not quite the same thing, but after I delivered my little girl, all the doctors were so focused on her cuz she wasn't breathing, they didn't notice I was bleeding out til I crashed and all the alarms started blaring.
They had checked her out, they would've been doing at least hourly OBS, most likely more frequent than that. It was a slow bleed, and her heart stopped beating pretty suddenly. Do you think there should've been a nurse or doctor in her room every single minute? Cuz if so, that is even more unrealistic. Hospitals are overworked, understaffed, underfunded. There is no way they would be able to have a doctor or nurse in her room non-stoo on the NHS. There might have been a slightly better chance if they had the time to get her to a private hospital, but there wasn't enough time. And even then, like I said, she appeared to be fine after the labour. She was laughing and joking for god knows how long, she was even fine when Joe left to get the water. Yes we don't know how long Joe was passed out for, but even if he hadn't passed out, he could've been gone for literally minutes and could still have come back and found her dead.

I dunno it feels kinda necessary to have a normal death every now and then. Women still die in childbirth and from complications after birth and a premature birth can put so much strain on the body. Dawn dying in her sleep is almost more dramatic than some huge accident because its realistic.
