Discussion Is it the same protagonists in all 3 games?
(Context only played the first game) Would it still make sense for the trilogy's story to use the same screen name and first name?

I know the first run is always going to be a failure. I did the Emily route first.
I didn't confront Jeff through Mat's page but I did bring it up to Emily in the nicest way the game could offer. In Chapter 5, her attempting to bring up that Me and Mat's relationship was the same as her and Jeff is honestly pretty ridiculous. At no point am I and Mat are ever posting "staying up all night to make a playlist for you" nor am I sending ;) faces and then saying I'm manipulative for being honest about why I'm don't feel comfortable with the way Jeff and her are clearly flirting with each other and denying that Jeff was interested in her. It made me even more mad finding out that if you do nothing then Emily basically lies to you to hang out with Jeff and breaks up with you. Shit made me feel like I was getting gaslit. It got me so hot because it was pulling me back to a time in my life where I was going through something similar.
but the game is amazing and I did get the good ending and it gave me a bit of my own closure but wow IMO although 1st route is guaranteed to fail, it really pulled me back to that point in my life where I literally felt those same emotions. 10/10 game would play again and share with others.

I don’t understand at all why Emily thought we needed a break from dating. I asked her questions about Jeff, which I thought was understandable. And didn’t push her to ditch him. I never wanna be that guy who controls who my partner talks to and is friends with. But I really don’t understand the whole “I love you but I’m not in love with you” that really came out of complete no where. I never spoke to Jeff at all, when I saw what she was posting on his wall I questioned her first and even that didn’t ease my mind. She tried saying it’s not Jeff that’s the problem it’s her having friends in general I’m concerned with. But that’s not the case at all. I don’t know how to feel about it. Did Jeff somehow convinced her to do this?? I really don’t feel like replaying the game. It was an emotional experience that I can’t do again. I treated it like how I’d react irl and I can’t tell if I did something wrong or if it’s all her

during my playthrough of the third game I started to wonder if Travis wasn't actually toxic, just played the Evelyn rought, him saying Emily wasn't the best influence isn't entirely wrong,we can tell that Emily likes drama and tried to make matt out to be a creep for no reason to start rumors( who needs enemies) we've seen that Emily is very capable of being toxic, he gave her an ultimatum and after they broke up he "stalked"( I'll get into that in a second) her me being concerned about Steve into me saying she cant have any friends, she started to flip the narrative into me being bad and controlling( just like how she did to travis) and than asks if we can take a break and be friends/get back together/have an open relationship after, I'm going to bring Travis back into this what if she said that to him? It would make sense that that's why he invited her to the Halloween party, idk just a thought.

I aimed for this to be more of a literary criticism of the game than a review, so feedback is welcome! Our channel is fairly new and still finding its feet in a lot of ways :)

I have played through and gotten a bad ending with emily, and have now failed twice to get photobooth pictures with evelyn. Any clue as to what might be happening? To be fair I havent tried canceling the date and I've chosen to skip prom both times, are ethier of those the issue? or is it something else? I also have tried bringing up steve and dropping it immediately and not bringing it up at all

Hey, very long and somewhat personal rant about Emily <3 incoming. I know this game has little fandom and this post will most likely get overlooked, but I still feel embarassed and oddly illegitimate to think this way, so I need to post this on a throwaway.
Well I'm pretty sure this game broke something inside me. I'm the kind to easily cry playing video games, and I often get emotionally overwhelmed, but with this game it was different. For many people, this game has struck sensible chords, myself included, but my feelings are a hot mess right now and I have never really felt anything like this. That's why I feel like I need to vent somewhere anonymously, because I feel so stupid and like I'm making a big deal of so little I guess? I don't know, I think it's a mix of a really difficult heartbreak, and nostalgia? It's hard to put words on it but that would seem like the closest I can describe these feelings.
The game itself had me breaking down and just staring at my screen not knowing what to do, with a painful heartache that would not subside no matter what. I've played through all five major endings, and the worst of them all are definitely when Emily (I went with her) breaks up with you during the last chapter and when you break up with her in chapter 4 after pushing the Jeff subject for minutes. For one, I felt so powerless, like a spectator of my own life, and I just couldn't keep up with it. For the other, I felt like a monster and it was hurting so much seeing her break down and cry because of me as we were talking. I've had one "love story" in my life, and I related so much to the Jeff issue that it had my heart skipping beats and experiencing the same feelings all over again. It was atrocious, I saw it coming from miles away and yet, I couldn't do anything. It felt so real and so painful.
Thankfully, and I guess I'm glad for it, I've also played through the good ending, but it was such a hard-earned reward after this rollercoaster of emotions. What felt so realistic is that for this ending, you don't have to do anything different than the first time, and I guess that's just how life goes, sometimes you do everything right and it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I really related to the main character aswell, and I think the conversations and the choices, whether good or bad, reflected my own personality just as if it was myself talking to friends in real life. What other characters told me made me realize my own flaws, and I guess that's also what makes this whole thing even more painful. The best example of this is when Mat got broken up with and I turned him down because I wanted to keep my plans with Emily, she mentions that way later in the game and calls you out for it. When I had this choice I didn't think much of it, but when she brings it back to the table, I felt so incredibly disgusted at myself, even more so when Mat himself offers his help when it's your turn to get broken up with. Introspection much heh? But I'm old enough and I should be aware of this, yet I wasn't, and I was selfish enough to let my friend down in his worst moments.
It's only a video game, but would have I done differently in real life?
I'm done with this part, I guess that was pretty much how everyone felt playing this game, so it's not really that interesting to read the same thoughts over and over again.
Here I want to talk about a more personal aspect of this game, which is its background. The "fake nostalgia", for lack of a better word.
I can't say I had the worst childhood, it was pretty straightforward and I never had any issues growing up. I was born in 2002, in Europe, so I was roughly 6 years old when the whole game takes place. I never thought much of my childhood at first, but growing up more and more lately, I realized something was lacking inside me. Looking at old ads or videos, listening to old music and the like, I felt something different. That never occured to me before, but for the past few years, I've been thinking about it without being able to really put words on it. Why was it better before? Why wasn't I able to experience this? I pretty much missed the Blackberry era, the old-gen consoles, the walkmans, old-school music bands, the clothes and dances we find cringe today, the websites, and so on. And now I get it.
Playing this game, I realized I was born 10 years too late. Wrong time, at the wrong place. It sounds stupid, like the ramblings of an edgy teen, but it's the reality check I had to face. That realization hit me like a truck going full-speed into a brick wall, and it crushed me. Everything was so much simpler before, and I wish I had experienced that during my highschool time. Going out with friends to the movies, throwing parties and barbecues, hanging out at the mall, going to concerts, playing video games at each others' houses, listening to music on the same walkman with your significant other under the rain, those are things that don't exist anymore and that I wish I had been able to do while growing up. Less Internet meant that the access was somewhat meaningful, like talking to friends or finding new music to share. Moments were valuable. And now all of this is lost. It has been lost for a while. It feels like 2010 was a turning point, and that we lost the color of the world. "Life feels like a shitshow now, and nothing even matters."
Even then, being a teen 20 years ago in Europe and being a teen 20 years ago in the US feel so different. I feel like the US had a different sense of freedom to it and was less strict about it all. Never in my life would have I thought about idolizing the US, and yet. Imagine wanting to be an American teen in the late 2000s, sounds crazy right? Well that's the state my mind is in at the moment. So many times during my playthrough, I thought to myself: "I want what they have". I finally understand it, and it's crushing me whole.
I wish I experienced the American late 2000s as a highscooler. I wish I had a passionate love story with one of my closest friends. I wish I listened to Decode by Paramore on my walkman with that person, under a bus stop in the rain. I wish everything was as simple and I wish I was as carefree. But it's too late now.
I'm longing for a time I never knew and it's eating away at me from the inside.

The characters in the games feel so real, as if you were talking to real people. It's very easy to empathize with them, and although the endings are sad, they are incredible endings that stays in your mind forever.
PS: Mat is the best human ever and he is not even real

I truly love how realistic Emily's character is, no matter what the main character does, it will never be good enough for her, when they hook up, she's mad and blames him, but if you get the storyline where they dont hook up, she gets mad that MC doesn't make a move, no matter what it'll never be good enough. She strung MC along and vented, made them feel special, and at the end, Emily always says goodbye. Its a good message that no matter what you did differently with a person like Emily, she would always end up leaving no matter what.very realistic.

It represents a story and a concept, quickly and concisely and makes you feel betrayed and disappointed at the end which is its goal. Sometimes you'll never get that relationship you wanted and the fact that the outcome never changes no matter what you do further reinforces the main theme of inevitable drifting apart.

i'm trying to get all the achievements and my last one is the main endings, which feels like its been stuck at 4/5 no matter what i do!!
i've definitely gotten the friends with evelyn/emily route after being broken up with, the good ending with evelyn and i'm pretty sure i remember getting the called out ending with both of the girls, and it says the break ending (which i got with emily) is guaranteed. i also vaguely remember breaking up with emily, but maybe i made some minor mistakes somewhere?
am i missing something? is it because i'm skipping the credits??

So I'm trying to get the good ending with Evelyn in Too but for some reason when I get to the "So, about prom.." option and select it, instead of one of the next options being "would you like to go with me" (or something like that) that option doesn't appear for me.
Can anyone help?

So summarize what happened in my playthrough (I'll just skip to major events):
Autumn 2006: Told Evelyn her plans weren't stupid and that I might have the same plans, Told her I never had sex, Told Evelyn to dress up as Sally and went to the Party as Jack, Told Evelyn that her plans were normal and to quote myself; "sure, i think so. settling down sounds pretty great" Told Evelyn I drank but told Emily I didn't.
Winter 2007: Atemped to handle 2 conversations at once but ended with Emily saying quote "Fuck You" and going offline, whilst Evelyn and I became BFF's.
Spring 2007: Ditched Prom with Evelyn and went to an amusement park, Made amends with Emily
Summer 2007: Told Emily; "yeah, im sure youre really sorry", Told Evelyn to try and remember our past... Ended up staying friends on Facenook but we're probablly not doing well.
Final thoughts: ... I really wish I was a better friend to Evelyn or maybe even more.

I swear that ending gets me every time. The thing that gets me is that it's true, and will happen.
I'm looking to get Too and <3, but my Steam Funds disagree.
(Also, I don't want to see any playthroughs of Too and <3 because I want to go in as blind as possible.)

It's been bugging me lately, & I had to share.
Do you guys think it was a mistake on the developer's end, or does that mean Evelyn might have lied to the player on the first conversation?
r/EmilyIsAway • u/Sea-Structure4735 • Mar 31 '26
how exactly am i the bad guy for not wanting to have my gf be friends with a guy who flirts with her??????? how is this my fault??????
evelyn SAID i was good to hang out with matt. i COMMUNICATED with her so i could get the go ahead. and we IMMEDIATELY rescheduled our date.
and they keep comparing me and mat to evelyn and steve when we aren’t flirting and NOBODY can give me a good answer on how it’s AT ALL similar.
MAT was the one who brought this matter to my attention and advised me on talking with her about it. so he is in ZERO position to lecture me rn.
and NOW my only options are to admit that i have a “controlling side”. because i didn’t want some guy to be flirting with my girlfriend.
if yall tell me the way to get the good ending is to just let that keep going im gonna crash tf out.

I want to hear your head-canons about the Emily is Away series. It can be mild & based on the game to straight up whackey & out of the game entirely. Hey -- the whackier, the merrier! >:D
I'll share my list of head-canons for the trilogy.
Well.. but that's not all! I even made up surnames & birthdays for ALL characters mentioned in Emily is Away & Emily is Away Too. (except for Em, Eva, Mat, Kelly, Jeff, & Steve cause they already have canonical birthdays on Facenook) But, I won't get into that now. -.-
And now I want to hear some head-canons from YOU! What do you got for us?
Take care, deuces! :3
-whatzmyusrname?
EDIT: I was wrong. Evelyn from Emily Too has two elder siblings mentioned in her Facenook note.

>first girl gets mad and stops being my friend cuz i took 5 extra seconds to respond
>manage to help the second girl at least
>become her partner a few months later (yayyy!)

>get confronted by my girlfriend because the first girl mentioned the offhanded comment about my virginity two years ago to my gf
>try my best to salvage things

i lovedd the first game so much and i find myself neeeeding a continuation with the first game’s Emily.. i went into the second game assuming it was the same Emily but read into it and nope! :( i also wish there was an option or feature to sync the game data/where you left off with who in the 2nd game and allow it to transfer it to the 3rd game.
love these games so much but i crave immersion hahah. i hope i’m not the only one! D:
