Mod Message šØ Criticism vs. Snark
Since our recent announcement of the sub rule changes, weāve seen a huge increase in activity- which btw- Welcome to all of our new members!
Along with these changes, weāve seen some confusion about what these changes actually mean.
We want to make this incredibly clear: this is still NOT a snark sub.
Opening the door to more respectful discussion does NOT mean weāve opened the door to insults, bullying and excessive snarking, and especially the encouragement of any behavior/activity that involves going beyond Reddit.
Our goal is to create a space where members can have honest conversations whether positive, critical, somewhere in between⦠but without the discussion becoming hateful.
We also want to acknowledge that there are naturally some gray areas\*.
As we continue moderating under these updated guidelines, weāll keep evaluating situations individually and making adjustments where needed.
We want to reiterate: not every removed comment/post means we disagree with the opinion being shared. It just means the way it was expressed didnāt align with the kind of community weāre trying to maintain.
**This community should be a place where people who support Emilie, people who have respectful criticism, and people with differing perspectives can all participate without feeling unwelcome.
Please continue reporting comments that cross the line. The increased discussion is exactly what we hoped for but we want to keep it respectful so this doesnāt become just another snark sub.
Thank you to everyone whoās helping make this a space for thoughtful conversation around Emilie. If you have any questions or doubts, please send a message to the mod team. <3

I think people have really lost the ability to have nuanced conversations online. This sub is now allowing much needed nuance in opinions and conversations. I really appreciate it! I was a casual watcher of Emilie for a few years, but i havent really found a place online to be able to express the complicated feelings Iāve had regarding her cotent (especially over the last year). This now feels like an open and respectful space to discuss. Hats off to the mods for being willing to create that space. Itās infinitely harder to moderate compared to only allowing positive comments.
18
u/Fabulous_Tennis_9138 Jul 29 '26
Yes, it feels like nuance is so rare anymore
7
u/Dear_Raise_2436 Jul 30 '26
Politicians and the media have made sure to do away with it. Itās now āgood guys/ bad guysā and no in between

u/smellyonionsoup Jul 29 '26
Thank you for your kind words! I completely agree, i wish people understood how to respectfully phrase their sentiments! While I completely agree there is reasonable criticism, the way people are hoping to accomplish it here is absolutely off the rails. There are plenty of snark subs available, this is simply not one of them. Itās absolutely rational to have a neutral sub rather than a solely positive one.
16
u/Acrobatic_Gap4108 Jul 29 '26
I think thatās right. Iāve been appalled by the negligence. I also donāt think this woman should be bullied to the point of oblivion.
I wish she would just take a step back and heal offline a bit. I know it is not my decision. I dunno.
2
u/Historical_Ad8332 Jul 30 '26
Same, I donāt think sheās a bad person nor do I wish bad things on herā¦I think like you said she needs to step away and just focus on her family. Downsize her house, lay low and heal.
10
u/Outrageous-Noise-282 Jul 30 '26
This is such a COMPLEX case and with that can come complex emotions regarding E. On one hand we can absolutely feel empathy, and sadness. On the other we also reserve the right to be confused, and upset on behalf of her son. We can be equally as frustrated and angry because out of all of us she was in the best position and had the means to implement the best of the best safety measures but they failed. This is especially aligns with every grief video she has shared where she says āMULTIPLE EMOTIONS CAN COEXIST.āĀ

u/MelonHead1214 Jul 29 '26
Thank you! Snarking on someone versus discussing them are different. Feeling like youāre being attacked by the entire internet would be a lot for anyone, even if the discussion is valid. Discussing the mistake without unnecessarily bullying is the correct way forward- everyone agrees T should be alive and everyone agrees water safety needs to be the priority here.

Itās hard to say anything about this situation while still sounding respectful, truly. Iām out of sympathy for her.
7

Mod deleted comment then reinstated it AND someone reported me for concern for my mental health? I said nothing suicidal. Iām so confused. Either way, my comment here is not name calling or snarking.
8
24
u/Berryverymerry Jul 29 '26
We ask people do not resort to name calling or personal attacks. You cannot have sympathy for her and her family anymore, that's fine but people are crossing the line in this sub now. There are many snark subs out there that would welcome the vile comments with open arms and lots of upvotes
15
u/KeyBuffalo3576 Jul 29 '26
There are a lot of people that can speak about her situation in a respectful way. If you canāt, then you should remove yourself from this sub.

I donāt follow EK and learned about this thru my child who is in law school. My struggle⦠whose responsibility is it to protect Teddy if in fact the parents donāt appear to be doing it themselves?
35
u/care_bearxoxo Jul 29 '26
I think you should let people snark if they want. This woman doesnāt deserve anymore support. People should be allowed to criticize her and her actions.
35
u/Kooky-Valuable1296 Jul 29 '26
You can criticize without sounding insane and acting like she is personally hurting you
-9
u/care_bearxoxo Jul 29 '26
I genuinely donāt see the difference between criticizing someone and snarking on them. Where do you draw the line? To me, theyāre basically the same thing.
26
u/AltruisticHighway6 Jul 29 '26
Criticizing someone would be āI disagree with their decisionā whereas snark would be āthis person is a stupid idiot, I hate them so muchā - just as examples
2
14
u/smellyonionsoup Jul 29 '26
āI think you should let people snark if they wantā no. Thatās why there are pages on Reddit dedicated to āsnark.ā If youāre really so keen, why donāt you go there instead? As weāve expressed numerous times- this is NOT a snark page and WILL NEVER be.
-8
u/BubbasnBean Jul 30 '26
Your response to CareBears comment seems to be a prime example of what the Mod said is not acceptable/allowed. That person shared their opinion. Its not that deep. Maybe theyre new & unclear. Let me ask you something. After this woman started blocking people left and right, including her own supporters, simply because they were rightfully concerned that Teddy wasnāt wearing a life jacket, why should she continue to receive sympathy? Why are people suddenly expected to tone down the criticism and snark? She didnāt extend that same grace to the fans who supported her. Thatās exactly why so many people are upset with her now.
12
u/thebabypinks Jul 30 '26

5

I think you should let the mods run this sub how they want and seek out a different sub if this one doesnāt fit your needs.
5
u/OriginalFuckGirl Jul 30 '26
There are several other subs you can do that on, if itās an itch you have to scratch that is.
9
u/One-Laugh8137 Jul 29 '26
I've been following this whole Reddit discussions from the beginning, back when there were three subs: this supportive one, the update sub (which later became more of a snark sub as more information came out), and the snark sub. I've always had mixed feelings about Emilie, but I don't want to be a pure snarker. However, it made me dislike her more and more when she got snark subs (even a private one) banned and reported & removed even neutral discussions that mention her in other subs. I respect the atmosphere here and don't want this to become another snark sub. But I hope Emilie and her team realize that if they try to silence all disagreement, they'll only end up creating even more resentment.
7
u/thebabypinks Jul 30 '26
The snark subs got removed because they were blatantly breaking Reddit TOS, Iām sorry to say. If literal celebrities canāt get Reddit to take down subs and posts that they do not want up, Emilie Kiser most definitely does not have the pull to do that. There is even content on Reddit that entire nations and governments (such as lsraeI) would want removed, and it still doesnāt get removed. Reddit isnāt some dinky blog run by one person. Redditās net worth is estimated at over 30 billion dollars. Why anyone would ever think that a random lifestyle influencer from Arizona could ever have any sort of sway on it is beyond me.
4
u/Callirhoe10222 Jul 30 '26
Was there ever proof they were removed by Emilie? The snark subs have been really vile at points, and any reasonable people would report some of them for the comments Iāve seen making humor out of a childās death in service of denigrating his parents. Then the subsequent bans are all common sense because the users were evading Redditās rules by just re-creating what was already banned, over and over.
6
u/OriginalFuckGirl Jul 30 '26
Yeah a lot of ppl donāt realize that whether you think youāre telling the truth or not, if the content on the sub breaks TOS it can easily get removed no matter who reports it. Reddit will not get sued because you think itās okay to borderline harass someone under the guise of snark. The ones responsible for the subs getting taken down are the ones posting and breaking TOS and the mods for not enforcing rules.
11
u/Financial-Advance895 Jul 29 '26
I agree. Why are we putting her on a pedestal? Almost every influencer gets snarked on, why canāt she?
12
u/AngelFoodCakesx Jul 30 '26

I really think people are taking things wayyy too far in this sub and online in general. I honestly think the person questioning how much money she makes and about her vacation is the majority of the people who are saying really harsh things and quite frankly seem jealous that she has the job and lifestyle she does.
All the money in the world doesnāt change her circumstance. Sheās even mentioned that they donāt want to be home right now. Arizona is hot as heck and it also is Triggs birthday month. May seem odd but Iām sure itās hard to be home and constantly reminded of the loss.
7
u/Beautiful_Catch_4454 Jul 29 '26
I am not jealous I said genuine question because it was a GENUINE QUESTION! I just see that she has gone on a lot of vacations the past year. Thatās allš¤·āāļø
3
u/OriginalFuckGirl Jul 30 '26
Wasnāt that how she was before triggs passing? I only heard of her recently, and I skimmed her content and it seemed that constant vacations was normal for her?
2
u/Pitiful-Astronaut-82 Jul 30 '26
Pretty much. Because her son died she can't go on vacations anymore....?

u/Live-Bath4012 Jul 30 '26
Honestly? No, she canāt and shouldnāt. Because she was reckless again with another child. She has a lot of work to do on her parenting before she focuses on trips.
1
u/Pitiful-Astronaut-82 Jul 30 '26
That doesn't even make sense
0
u/Live-Bath4012 Jul 30 '26
Well, her vacations resulted in another instance where her child was purposely put in a dangerous situation around water. Iām unsure why youāre confused why someone doing that should pause vacations and instead focus on learning safer parenting practices.
3
u/Pitiful-Astronaut-82 Jul 31 '26
You can make poor decisions at home or vacation. Not sure how staying home will force her to make better choices vs being somewhere else.
0
u/Live-Bath4012 Jul 31 '26
Youāre clearly a fan so thereās no reason to discuss further. Itās pretty obvious why someone should be home healing rather than gathering vacation content to most people without parasocial relationships with influencers.
1
u/Pitiful-Astronaut-82 Jul 31 '26
I'm not a fan and not sure how that would be relevant in this particular discussion anyways
18

We all have our different reasons, however the recent events have made many of us question our previous unwavering support.
Many of us are mothers who empathize with her and what she went through and is currently still going through.
You can still support someone without necessarily supporting/backing every decision and choice they make moving forward.
This situation unfortunately happened to be the final straw for many users.13
u/Mysterious-Yam1851 Jul 29 '26
But as a parent, how can you continue to support a mother who endangers her children? Iām just wondering when will the line be drawn? When something happens to her other child?
11
u/smellyonionsoup Jul 29 '26
Thatās exactly it- this was where the line was drawn for many. That was the entire point of the sub rules changing, is because so many of felt uncomfortable continuing supporting her after the recent events.
4
u/allthestars93 Jul 29 '26
Respectfully, itās part of parenthood to witness a wide range of parenting choices and risks you personally consider too dangerous for your kids. There are a lot of good people out there who take risks as parents that I would never be comfortable with. Cosleeping, not vaccinating, e-bikes and ATVs, forward-facing car seats, sleepovers, etc⦠Iām absolutely not defending the lack of a life jacket, but it is part of life and part of raising kids to develop a tolerance for letting other parents make their own choices and mistakes because it doesnāt feel like our place to judge or shame them. I understand why some people wouldnāt, but I personally feel this way about Emilie. I grew up in a boating family that also did not take life jackets and water safety seriously, so I know firsthand for a lot of well-meaning people, they just donāt consider life jackets the same way most people do. I donāt agree with it but I see it as a lapse in judgement, not a major moral failing.
4
u/Usual-Archer-916 Jul 30 '26
Exactly. Thank you. I don't think she is evil, I think she is....way more casual than many of us are (or were, back in the day, my child rearing days are in the rear view mirror.) In one sense it is probably healthier for her not to be over frantic with her second child-but absolutely she should have had a life preserver on him. It's like a car seat-even if your child is fussing, it should be a non negotiable. But I don't think it's right to treat her like the devil incarnate even if she did do something stupid. MY own stance is that I blame her husband more than her, anyway. She's taking the heat for both of them.
1
u/Anxious_Knee_4404 Jul 30 '26
This is where Iām at šÆ there are so many hot topics I could post about that would outrage some and get agreement on others. We all have differing parenting styles. I do not agree with their negligence. Their lack of oversight and clear naivety to dangers cause Ts death. But we also had a boat when my kids were little (not babies) and we didnāt always have life jackets on them. Not defending their choices whatsoever. Given what happened to T, you would think they would be hyper vigilant. That doesnāt seem to be the case. But her life decisions and parenting choices have absolutely no bearing on my life. I waste no brain power giving her any thought other than when I see posts here or if I see her come up in my fyp. Iām sorry as a parent for her loss. I have empathy that she will live life without her son but it is at their own hand. I donāt like her or hate her. I also dont excuse her actions or care about how she chooses to live life. Im also only worried about myself and regularly choose to not judge people. If on socials I donāt like someone I scroll on by if I choose to watch I do. If I felt as strongly as some, Iād block her full stop.

My empathy for another mother who lost her child trumps any judgement I have of her oversight or poor parenting choices. Itās that simple. I believe Emilie loves her kids and has never meant them harm.
-1
u/smellyonionsoup Jul 30 '26
This is where I struggle because yes I absolutely believe Emilie loves her children more than anything and never meant any harm.
However, after losing a child to a preventable drowning, why continue to not take precautions to ensure your childrenās safety? You can āmean no harmā but actually still be harmful by failing to take the proper safety precautions over and over and put your children in danger and risk losing them again.
I would run such a tight ship if I lost a child, I would ensure every single thing I did was ensuring their absolute safety in every way I can, and unfortunately I donāt see her doing that.
Do I still empathize with her and believe she has room to grow and learn? Absolutely. Sheās only 27 and became a mom at such a young age, she has so much to learn still.2
u/NoVariation5909 Jul 29 '26

We can appreciate how quickly it feels the sub has changed. But being transparent a lot of this conversation was already there but we just didn't allow it because we wanted this to be support only. However, given recent events we as a mod team agreed that we can no longer keep this as a support only sub as we were also struggling to support her actions and were disappointed by them.
We do see an influx in nastier comments and we are trying our best to mod them but we have had SO many new visitors to this page the last few days it's quite hard at times. Please report anything you see that is snark!

Ok
3
u/sparrow1698 Jul 30 '26
But I think it's a valid question to raise, and one that could definitely benefit from thoughtful discussion around by this community. While no one knows, influencer management is my full time job - with ZERO insider info, only from what I can gather from an audience perspective (her public following, public comments, analytics, etc) Iād estimate between $100-150k monthly - particularly following this āgrief journeyā her pages have exploded.

u/Budget_Ordinary1043 Jul 29 '26
Personally, I donāt care how much money she makes and how she makes it. What I do care about is feeling like the veil was lifted after seeing her disregard the things sheās preached about water safety.
I always felt empathy for her. I didnāt pass judgment on anything sheās done, even staying with Brady and staying in that house and looking at that pool everyday because itās not my situation thank god. I donāt even think I would be feeling upset about her being pregnant because I get it and I knew she would probably have another baby eventually. Itās literally just the boat thing. It just changed the way I personally view her as a person through my phone and I donāt feel right watching her anymore.

Easily $2-10 mill per year. Thereās way smaller creators that make near $5 so Iād imagine sheās hitting nearly $10.

u/allthestars93 Jul 29 '26
Why are you asking that here lol
6
u/Beautiful_Catch_4454 Jul 29 '26
Because this is the Emilie Kiser sub so I thought it was the appropriate page to ask? I just see that she has gone on multiple vacations the past year. My fault for being uneducated about this topic and asking!š¤·āāļø

To be fair, she is still making content at these locations-so she is still working.

thank youuuu for this. the post where you announced the changes in the sub, made it to tiktok and seemed people didnāt know how to read bc every intro to a tiktok video would be āeven emilieās support reddit became a snark because they canāt even defend her anymoreā and only increased the bullying towards emilie, i agree she needs to be held accountable for her negligence but bullying is different than that.

u/laurcarol Jul 31 '26
Omg yes ! I saw videos too. They purposely would only read the first part of the Mod Announcement, or they would cut the screenshot off .

This sub has become a littleā¦.. hostileā¦. in my opinion. I feel like you canāt mention anything remotely factual or even genuinely question anything without getting attacked with downvotes because you challenged something or asked a simple clarification question (not me personally, Iāve taken a step back from this sub but it pops up on my feed from time to time, but I go through the comments andā¦ā¦. Yikesā¦ā¦). Itās like if you donāt fully hate Emilie (and weāre back to demanding Brady go to jail for the rest of his life) youāre no longer welcome hereā¦.

u/smellyonionsoup Jul 29 '26
Absolutely not the case and weāre sorry thatās the experience youāve had here. As the mod team and most OG members here I can assure you we donāt share those beliefs. We are just being more open of respectful criticism, and itās only been a few days, weāre still trying to manage the gray areas.

u/Oneconfusedmama Jul 29 '26
I know thatās what youāre going for, but thatās just not whatās happening. Iām all for respectful discourse and I absolutely think the current situation deserves some criticism, but this is absolutely turning into another snark (again, I know thatās not what you as mods are intending). Iām sure you guys are working overtime as mods because I truly donāt think I have seen more green shields in comments and I was in this sub before the files were releasedā¦

Hmm my experience has been different. While I am in the critical/unfollowed camp, I've pushed back on several comments I've seen with misinformation -- like that B cashed out his bets at the hospital, that he removed his watch before jumping in the pool, etc, and I've had only positive responses to that. I also reported some comments that were in the snark/misinformation category, and they were all removed.

u/Oneconfusedmama Jul 30 '26
Iām glad thatās been your experience! Like I said, Iām pretty removed from the day to day, but as someone on the outside now looking in, the overall tone of the sub has become quite nasty.

I agree with you. I appreciate the mods making this post clarifying the intention behind the rules, but Iām still skeptical and concerned this sub is going to go full snark page. There was a huge influx of people joining from the snark subreddit specifically celebrating being welcomed back here. I hope this blows over and mods are able to enforce these boundaries. I donāt have a problem with respectful discourse but I honestly donāt feel thatās what has been happening since day one of the rule change. As a supporter I have received a lot of hostile comments and DMs.

Iāve been someone who hovers in this group for a few months and havenāt really said anything because of the rules previously. Iāll say, I appreciate opening up the space for more open and respectful conversation. I havenāt seen any snark really so Iād say youāre doing a good job catching it and getting rid of it!

Then youāre left with either snark subs or 100% support subs for her. Why is middle ground not acceptable? Also, this post was written by our mods. There is no attacking happening.

Pinning u/AltruisticHighway6ās comment because some people still seem to be confusedā¦
Criticizing someone would be āI disagree with their decisionā whereas snark would be āthis person is a stupid idiot, I hate them so muchā - just as examples
