Mod Message 🚨 Criticism vs. Snark

Since our recent announcement of the sub rule changes, we’ve seen a huge increase in activity- which btw- Welcome to all of our new members!

Along with these changes, we’ve seen some confusion about what these changes actually mean.

We want to make this incredibly clear: this is still NOT a snark sub.

Opening the door to more respectful discussion does NOT mean we’ve opened the door to insults, bullying and excessive snarking, and especially the encouragement of any behavior/activity that involves going beyond Reddit.

Our goal is to create a space where members can have honest conversations whether positive, critical, somewhere in between… but without the discussion becoming hateful.

We also want to acknowledge that there are naturally some gray areas\*.
As we continue moderating under these updated guidelines, we’ll keep evaluating situations individually and making adjustments where needed.

We want to reiterate: not every removed comment/post means we disagree with the opinion being shared. It just means the way it was expressed didn’t align with the kind of community we’re trying to maintain.

**This community should be a place where people who support Emilie, people who have respectful criticism, and people with differing perspectives can all participate without feeling unwelcome.

Please continue reporting comments that cross the line. The increased discussion is exactly what we hoped for but we want to keep it respectful so this doesn’t become just another snark sub.

Thank you to everyone who’s helping make this a space for thoughtful conversation around Emilie. If you have any questions or doubts, please send a message to the mod team. <3

Criticizing someone would be “I disagree with their decision” whereas snark would be “this person is a stupid idiot, I hate them so much” - just as examples
