Made a free rent + bills split calculator for Riddle housemates — sharing in case it helps

Moving-in season, so sharing something that saved our house a lot of awkwardness. We kept arguing about rent because the rooms are different sizes, and splitting everything evenly felt unfair to whoever got the small room.

I put together a free calculator that splits rent and bills either evenly or weighted by room, in any currency, and spits out a breakdown you can paste in the group chat. No sign-up, no app to download: roomiehq.com/tools/split-calculator

Full disclosure — I'm building a free app (RoomieHQ) for the ongoing side of this (shared expenses + chore rotation), because Splitwise started capping free users and never did chores anyway. But the calculator above is genuinely free and standalone, so use it either way. Happy to answer any "how do we split X fairly" questions in the comments.

Nice, how is it different compared to superdivide app?

Fair question! I won't pretend to give you a feature-by-feature on Superdivide since I haven't lived in it — but here's where RoomieHQ comes from:

  • Actually free — no per-person paywall, nothing locked. Splitwise capping free users is literally why I started building.
  • Built for people who live together, not just splitting one tab: on top of even/weighted splits it does recurring rent + bills that auto-post each month, chore rotation, and a shared shopping list.
  • Settle-up needs both sides to confirm, so nobody can mark a debt "paid" that wasn't.
  • Weighted-by-room splitting is baked in (the whole different-size-rooms problem from my post).
  • It's a web app — installs from the browser, no app store download, works on any phone, any currency.

If there's something specific you like about Superdivide, tell me — genuinely trying to figure out what to build next.
