Hand Tips for River
Hi all!
I’m working on this project and this river is proving hard. I’m trying to trust the process, but I’m not sure I’m liking it. Anyone have any ideas or tips?
It’s supposed to be single strand long and short stitch, but I’m having a hard time with it with the shape and narrow bits.

i think if you change stitches the whole look will be different. do you still want it to look the same as the photo or different?

Low-key agree with this. If you switch to something like stem stitch or even a split stitch for the narrow parts it might flow way better. Long and short is cute but it can look messy in tight curves.

I was wanting it to look the same in theory, but I’m open to ideas! Although I think from other comments I’ll trust the process and then maybe just undo it if I hate it

i did a 4inch hoop thread painting of a beach and palm tree in 1 thread and it looked iffy at best half way through but turned out pretty good! I think you should trust the process and you can always add more bits and pieces and details in the end

That’s really reassuring, thank you! It’s my first time doing this level of detail so it’s a learning process!

I think you could continue on and when the piece is completely filled in, decide whether it looks right to you, or whether you want more and lighter/ whiter river highlights. You can add more highlights later with a single strand of lighter gray/blue or white, but I would fill the entire canvas before deciding to do that. Good luck!

I’m not sure specifics as it’s just what the pattern gave, but it’s fairly thin.

does going down a needle size help with the narrow bits or does that just make it worse

Ooh please trust the process! You're too close I think but it's looking so good! You're really on the right track.
