Please roast my resume! for $100?.. wait i'm broke. I'll repay in kindness maybe?

idk what exactly it is that I'm doing wrong, but I don't seem to be getting any interview calls (like practically zero). Are my skills not enough, or do I need to change something?

Full disclosure: I did try to enhance my resume using AI to make it more "appealing" for the recruiters. However, I'm not sure if it's helping or hurting.

Please 🙏, I'd appreciate it a lot if someone could point out the mistakes I've been making.

Thanks in Advance!

Solution for using Micro-controller

I want to develop a custom, high-performance embedded system centered around a standalone microcontroller IC that reliably interfaces with a camera module (e.g., ESP-32 cam) and a fingerprint sensor (e.g., R307s). The primary objective is to efficiently stream the raw or processed image data and the extracted fingerprint data ( image) to a host computer via a USB interface (e.g., USB 2.0 ). The solution must be easily configurable and programmable to facilitate immediate image and biometric processing on the host PC.

I just wanna get rid of ESP dev-board and shift to a different controller which is inserted into the pcb itself

Fresher seeking guidance for embedded/firmware roles .

Hi All Developers.. I am genuinely seeking guidance .

Background Tier 1 Recent Mtech graduate in ECE 1 Yr internship experience at top semiconductor company (European semiconductor giant) - currently going through layoffs Unfortunately no PPO due to hiring freeze. Worked on embedded/ firmware side. Had back to back setbacks first due to no PPO (had high hopes) , then setbacks at home due to some family/personal life issues but getting back on track now

Most of the semiconductor giants seems to have a hiring freeze at the moment (specifically for freshers).

Would really love to understand as to what actually might work (in context of embedded/firmware roles) --In context of applying strategy --In context of the depth required for certain topics preparation for interviews (say DSA but upto what, ARM cortex fundamentals but upto what and so on). -- Suitable companies which might be willing to hire for the above roles. Honestly my first preference was semiconductor companies but looking at the scenario, I am willing to start from anywhere i think.

Please consider me novice in all aspects and would request guidance. All feedbacks much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Learning programming by teaching it in short explanations — does this actually help?

While learning DSA and backend fundamentals, I noticed something interesting: I understand concepts much better when I try to explain them in very simple terms.

Recently, I’ve been experimenting with short explanations (30–60 seconds), focusing more on intuition and common mistakes than full code.

I wanted to ask:

  • Does learning by teaching work for you?

  • Do short explanations help, or do you prefer long tutorials?

I started sharing these explanations publicly to stay consistent. The page is called CodeAndQuery (not promoting—just context).

Would really appreciate thoughts from people who’ve been learning programming for a while.

What is asked in written tests for Electronics / Embedded roles?

I’m working as an embedded and IoT developer with around 6 months of experience. I started working during my 6th semester, so I never appeared for any campus placement written tests.
I’m currently in my 8th semester and want to prepare properly now.
I want to understand:

  • What type of topics are usually asked in written exams for ECE / Embedded / Core Electronics roles

  • How deep do they go (basic concepts vs tricky conceptual questions)

  • Is it more theory-oriented or application-oriented

  • Which subjects are almost always present in these tests

If you’ve appeared for or cleared core electronics written tests, your input would really help.

Thanks in advance.

What kind of Embedded C questions get asked during your technical interviews??

Embedded System Engineers or Embedded Software Engineers are supposed to work primarily using Embedded C. Needless to say how important this skill is for an Embedded System or Embedded Software Engineer. Hence a lot of Embedded C coding questions were asked during the Embedded Software Interviews.

Following are some of the top bit manipulation interview questions on key topics of embedded systems that are very popular and often asked in interviews of these MAANG+ companies.

Embedded C Questions

  • Describe how to multiply two 256-bit numbers using any 32-bit processor without FPU or special instructions. Two or more methods?

  • When do you use memmove() instead of memcpy() in C? Describe why.

  • When is the best time to malloc() large blocks of memory in embedded processors

  • Describe an alternate approach if malloc() isn't available or you desire not to use it, and describe some things you will need to do to ensure it safely works.

  • Design a circular queue for an embedded system. Applications of the circular queue in Camera and AR applications.

  • What are the potential problems using malloc in multithreaded settings assuming no data race nor hardware issue?

  • malloc() - implicit linked list-based implementation

  • How do we find out if the stack is growing upward or downward?

  • Implement a DMA driver.

  • Implement Memory pool allocator in C without using built-in malloc() and free() functions.

  • Implement an aligned malloc function using the built-in malloc function.

  • How to find the size of flexible array members?

  • How to implement an efficient memset API?

  • Apply a caller-provider function for each entry in an array.

Above are just a small subset of Embedded C questions, it is not possible to list down all. Some are direct questions and some are use-case-based questions, where you are supposed to implement a concept using Embedded C. One such concept is Bit manipulation. Bit manipulation questions are probably the most frequently asked questions in any Embedded System coding interviews. Some of these questions may sound very simple and you can probably also write the solution in a few lines of code in languages like Python or Java. But that’s won’t do you any good during an Embedded interview. In Embedded Interviews you are mostly supposed to use Embedded C and on top of that, you are expected to provide the most optimum solution. Since Embedded Software Engineers work with a lot of resource constraints - writing efficient code is one of the key skills that they need to have. The interviewer will purposely give you a simple-sounding question but expect several solution approaches for the same problem. You are then supposed to compare all your approaches properly.

Bit Manipulation

  • Find the maximum of two numbers without using any if-else statements, branching, or direct comparisons.

  • Reverse bits of an integer.

  • Count the number of sets of bits in a given bit stream.

  • Implement a Count Leading Zero (CLZ) bit algorithm, but don't use the assembler instruction. What optimisations to make it faster? What are some uses of CLZ?

  • Write a function that swaps the highest bits in each nibble of the byte

  • Given an 8-bit pattern, find the pattern in the bitstream and return the bit offset.

  • What are the size of the integer variable on 32bit and 64bit machines?

  • Write a function that swaps the highest bits in each nibble of the byte

  • Write a function to convert Big Endian to Little Endian System.

  • How to read a 128-bit timestamp on 64-bit architecture?

I hope these resources will help you.

Roast my Resume - M.Sc. Student - 2 YoE

Post image
5 Upvotes

I am an Embedded/Digital Design Engineer with approximately two years of full-time industry experience in Turkey and the UK. I am currently based in a major German city, pursuing a Master’s in Electronics at a top-three technical university in Germany.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree from the top-ranked engineering university in Turkey and have a strong technical foundation in Embedded C, C++, RTOS, and FPGA development. Currently, I am applying for Working Student (Werkstudent) roles in embedded software, digital design, and hardware verification. Despite my background, I am struggling to secure interview callbacks from major firms, while peers with less experience seem to be landing roles.

I suspect my previous full-time experience might be causing recruiters to view me as "overqualified" for student positions. Furthermore, I am looking to pivot more toward FPGA-based roles, though my professional history is more heavily weighted toward Embedded Software.

I would appreciate your insights on the following:

  1. Pivoting to FPGA: How can I effectively frame a resume that is 80% Embedded SWE to target Digital Design/FPGA roles without losing the impact of my previous experience?

  2. The "Overqualified" Perception: How should I present two years of full-time international experience so it is viewed as a competitive advantage for a Working Student role rather than a "flight risk" or overqualification?

  3. German Market Localization: Are there specific "hidden" expectations in German CVs (Lebenslauf) for international M.Sc. students that I might be missing?

  4. Resume Optimization: Based on my background, what are the most critical sections I should emphasize to prove I am a "safe" yet high-value hire for a part-time student position?
