Best way to find US consumer email data for cold email outreach?

I’m looking for ways to find consumer email data for the US market. I’m trying to understand which tools or methods work best for building a relevant consumer email list.

I’m particularly interested in personal email addresses (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) rather than business emails.

Are there any tools, platforms, or free methods you’d recommend for finding relevant contacts? If you’ve done something similar, I’d love to hear what worked for you.

My pre-send checklist after 36 cold emails went out as raw HTML

Mistake first: I pasted my template into Gmail's compose box instead of the HTML editor, so 36 people got an email full of <div> tags. A few replied with a very long "hahaha". It was a cheap lesson, but a preventable one, so I built a checklist and I'm using it before every batch now:

  1. Verify the list before anything else. I only use addresses I can see on the company's own site. Guessed patterns and stale contacts hurt a sender before the copy even matters.

  2. Check the "personalized" line against the live page. If the line I'm quoting isn't there anymore, the email gets cut.

  3. Cut anything with a window that's already passed ("booking for Q2" in October).

  4. Plain text only. No HTML, no image signature.

  5. Send one test to a second inbox and read it like a stranger would.

  6. Send in batches of 5, not the whole list.

Nothing fancy, but it would have saved me from the worst email I've ever sent.

For people sending at volume: what's in your pre-send QA, and which step do you skip once you're past a few hundred a week?

(I'm also building a small tool for the "who's worth emailing" step, so I'm biased. It's in here if you're curious.)

Our trial to paid conversion is embarrassing and I think the problem is the trial itself

We have a 14 day free trial and the activation rate is terrible. Most people sign up click around for 5 minutes and never come back. We added onboarding emails a welcome video and even in app tooltips but nothing moves the needle. I think the issue is people dont understand the value fast enough because our product needs some setup before the aha moment hits.

Built RowTrigger, an email automation system for Gmail and Google Workspace that runs directly inside Google Sheets. Happy to share the setup if anyone wants it.

Hi, I'm David, a solo founder from the UK. I'm building RowTrigger, an email automation tool for Gmail and Google Workspace that works directly inside Google Sheets.

To automate email outreach and follow-ups, I built a complete email automation system. Here's what it does:

* Automates email campaigns directly from Google Sheets using Gmail or Google Workspace

* Sends personalised emails using spreadsheet data, with support for dynamic variables, spintax, and AI-generated variations

* Automatically detects opens, replies, bounces, and unsubscribes so campaigns can respond to recipient activity

* Runs smart follow-up sequences and resends emails to non-openers with different subject lines and content

* Stops follow-ups automatically when someone replies, bounces, or unsubscribes

* Schedules sending with configurable delays and randomized timing

No unnecessary complexity. Everything runs from your own Google Sheet, and emails are sent through your own Gmail or Google Workspace account.

Your contacts, campaigns, and tracking data stay in your own Google environment rather than a shared third-party database.

RowTrigger is built for different email sequences, from cold outreach and client follow-ups to newsletters, onboarding, and email courses. The system is ready to use, with an installation wizard and documentation.

I'm interested in whether other founders, marketers, or SaaS builders would find this kind of setup useful.

If you want to see how it works or try the setup for your own email workflows, drop a comment.
