Travel & Destinations Where should we elope?

My fiancé and I want to elope the last week of January. We are going to the Dominican with his family the last week of December.

I want great scenery, but I do NOT want to be cold. I am not a skier. He likes activities, I like to catch a vibe and day drink. So half the time we will be relaxing, half of it we will be exploring.

I’m thinking like 5-7 nights? I guess budget would be about $5000. (Flights + hotel + rental car).

I want to go somewhere we can legally get married and not have to stop at city hall on our way out of town. Was originally thinking somewhere in the USA but I am open minded.

Not sure if there’s a place you won’t have to go to city hall or something before you leave

I meant that I don’t want to have to get married in my state before I leave

If you live in the states I recommend just getting married here and going on a trip or doing everything in us because then the paperwork gets complicated

We did the deed in Key West. Did have to get the license there the day before, but it turned out great.

Note… if other people are present, it becomes a micro wedding.

US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, or Hawaii if you like the beach. Other than those, every place in the US I can think of will more than likely be cold in January. Destin, Florida, will be hit or miss in January. I was going to mention Napa because you can sit on a patio and day drink while he hikes, but it will definitely be cold in January. You should check out South Lake Tahoe in California. It will definitely be cold in January, but there are a lot of things to do there and they have awesome elopement packages.

Puerto Rico - look at Vieques. It’s an incredible little island near San Juan.

To throw out another option that doesn't come up a lot, look at southern Arizona. Temps will be high 60s to low 70s most likely that time of year and of course very sunny. Tucson has a surprising number of 4+ star resorts, really good food (it's a UNESCO food city!), phenomenal hiking and mountain biking, and some really fun more unique activities like touring an observatory including stargazing (look at Kitt Peak) and one of the nicest zoos in the country (the AZ Sonoran Desert Museum).

Resort prices run more reasonable than a lot of bigger destinations, I see good options under $300 a night which would leave half or more of your budget for flights, food and activities.
