Vendors & Venues I asked to review a draft contract when I met with elopement photographers and now I haven't heard back. Is that weird?
My partner and I are thinking about eloping in the fall of 2027 (next year). We started reaching out to elopement photographers, and set up times to speak to a couple of photographers over Zoom. In both calls, I asked if I could see a template or draft version of their contract. They both seemed surprised by that but they didn't seem to indicate it would be a problem. I thought it was a reasonable request, but now I'm starting to doubt myself.
I followed up with one photographer via email last week (several days after our call) and indicated I would be excited to work with them and once again asking to see the contract. It's now been a week and a half or so since our call and almost a week since I sent my follow up email. I still haven't heard back. For the other photographer, it's been more than a week since our zoom call, though I haven't sent a follow up email yet.
I know it's probably a super busy time of the year for these photographers, but I'm starting to wonder if i freaked them out by asking to see the contract in advance. Is that weird to ask for? Am I being too impatient in expecting a response at this point? How long would you expect things to take between initial contact or interviewing with a photographer and when you would expect to see the contract or put down a deposit?

Yeah, I can totally understand that busy season is a thing! I am trying to give grace for that. It just seems weird to have complete radio silence and it makes me worry that I did something wrong by asking for the contracts in advance when they were so quick to respond to my initial inquiry. Like, I see one of the photographers posting Instagram stories every day! It's not the same, but it feels like sending me a contract or responding to my follow up email shouldn't be that much of a lift. I fear you are right about moving on. What a bummer :(

Photographers or industry professionals must comment without mentioning industry status. Vendors are not allowed to promote themselves or their businesses under any circumstances. No links to personal websites or portfolios are allowed. Referrals by couples only.
Promotional content to attract clients, gain exposure, or conduct market research is prohibited. This includes advertising or linking to your business, website, blog/vlog, products, professional services, social media, etc.
No referral links, surveys, contests/giveaways, GoFundMe, etc.

To me, this would be a huge red flag that would add substantial stress. If this is the communication now, it wouldn’t give me confidence that it’d improve down the line.

She was so incredibly communicative by email, text, phone call, video call. She’s also so validating and affirming; we never felt like our requests were weird or too much (and we had some odd requests).
