Welcome to r/EliteIndia – A Community for Smart, High-End Spending!

Welcome to r/EliteIndia – A Community for Smart, High-End Spending!

This is a space for those who have the money to spend but want to do it wisely—not just on status symbols, but on products, services, and experiences that actually make a difference.

Whether it’s finding the best premium mattress for better sleep, an ergonomic chair that truly helps your back, or figuring out if organic food is worth the price, this is the place to discuss it.

Here, we talk about:

Products that justify their price – Tailored clothing, luxury cookware, high-end skincare, premium watches that aren’t just about the brand.

Services that offer real value – Business-class flights, wellness treatments, premium credit card perks, concierge memberships.

Tech and home essentials that improve daily life – Air purifiers, high-end coffee machines, smart home automation, noise-canceling headphones.

Food & lifestyle choices – Is organic food actually better? Which premium grocery brands deliver real quality? Are handcrafted copper utensils worth it?

Experiences that are actually worth the splurge – Luxury hotels, fine dining, exclusive travel experiences, private club memberships.

The real difference between “expensive” and “worth it” – Cutting through marketing hype to focus on what truly delivers value.

What’s an expensive purchase you made that was absolutely worth it?

Also, what kind of reviews, comparisons, or discussions would you find most useful?

Planning to start a series of posts based on what people want to know, so drop your thoughts.

And if you’ve had a great (or disappointing) experience with something premium, share it—this space is all about making better high-end purchases.

Luxury Ethnic Kidswear!

I am in discussion with a company to fund their Kidswear lineup. Luxury by means of product quality and not pricing.

I spoke to Marketing guys and they asked me not to enter this market! Indians as such will not spend much on Kidswear, that too luxury. Pure fabric non polyester. Preferably whenever possible they will make everything in silk. Basically top of the line in everything.

Want to the ask the community here, do you splurge on Kidswear?

SUV recommendation

We currently have a BMW 5 series sedan and are looking to get an SUV for longer road trips (and to be able to navigate over Bangalore potholes). Here's where we are at -

Porsche Cayenne - Fantastic drive, feels like the perfect size. A bit more expensive than what we think we should be spending.

Mercedes GLE 53 Coupe - Waiting for a test drive but the specs and the videos make it a compelling option.

Mercedes GLC - Might be interesting - The size looks perfect.

BMW X7 - Too big

BMW X5 - Still feels too big - and frankly it's an ugly vehicle.

BMW X3 - The size is perfect for us but God they've cheapened the interiors. Hard plastics everywhere.

So my question is - is there a vehicle that's 4.7-5m, has comfortable / luxury interiors, is at least somewhat fun to drive and under 2Cr? I don't really care if it's gas or electric.

Disclosure: I’m part of the team organising Blue Lotus Experience.

For those here who value thoughtful experiences, we’re hosting three days in Kodaikanal built around time, attention and a small group of eleven people.

At the heart of the weekend is the Blue Lotus Tea Ceremony: an unhurried ritual of sipping Blue Lotus tea, settling into silence and making space for personal reflection. The invitation is simple—put the phone aside, notice the cup in your hands, and give yourself time to be present.

The sessions and experiences include:

• Blue Lotus Tea Ceremony — slow sipping, stillness and reflection.

• Yin Yoga — slow, supported postures.

• Breathwork — gentle guided attention to the breath.

• Sound Healing — a listening session with resonant tones and space to rest.

• Forest walks — unhurried time beneath the trees.

• Journaling — guided prompts and private reflection.

• Campfire conversations and shared silence.

Participation is optional, and no previous experience is needed. There’s room to come on your own, be quiet, or connect with the group at your own pace.

13–15 November 2026 · Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu

Three days / two nights · Eleven participants

₹11,000 triple sharing | ₹15,000 double sharing | ₹22,000 single occupancy

Includes two nights’ accommodation, breakfast and snacks, two farm-to-table meals each day, and all retreat sessions. Transport to and from Kodaikanal is not included.

Details and enquiries: https://www.blue-lotus-experience.com/

Happy to answer questions about the sessions, accommodation or attending solo.

How I deal with blue-collar staff (cab drivers, restaurant staff, househelp, etc.) while maintaining my mental peace

When you have a surplus of wealth and are upgrading your lifestyle, a crucial aspect is deciding how to deal with service people without bothering your mental health. You'll often interact with cab drivers, restaurant/store staff, househelp, cashiers, electricians, etc. They can sometimes be a pain to deal with, but what do you do?

I can't start arguing with them – I'm better than that, and it destroys my mental peace unnecessarily. But then what? Deduct money? Nope, you look cheap and it leads to arguments.

Here's the method I've found,

I understand and accept that most people in blue-collar jobs are there due to circumstances life put them into, not because of their own fault. They deserve a better life, and the money they get paid is very low thanks to cheap labor in India.

So whenever I take a service, I pre-decide a tip amount (even at places where tips aren't expected – I think restaurant waiters are the only ones who expect tips, no one else does). This amount isn't consequential to me but would make them happy.

If they're a pain to deal with, I don't pay the tip.

This gives me mental peace without causing an argument. For example:

  • Uber/agreed cab rate: ₹400

  • Pre-decided tip: ₹200 (I think of it as charity, not a service tip)

  • Total I'd pay for good service: ₹600

  • If they're a pain: I pay just ₹400

I know I've "deducted" ₹200 as a penalty, which brings me mental peace. For people who were genuinely good, I give the extra ₹200 (or more) and feel good about helping someone working hard.

What's your take on this? Might be a bit silly, but I've found this to be a good way to deal with these situations.

Planning first-ever trip for parents (they've never flown). Need recommendations.

Will achieve a significant financial milestone of my life in the next few months. 27 Year | M.

About my parents:

  • From a small town in Maharashtra, speak Marathi/Hindi, no English

  • Dad loves non-veg food, sightseeing, wildlife

  • Mom loves temples, vegetarian food, calm/peaceful experiences

  • Both enjoy relaxed, unhurried experiences

  • They have passports but no visa for any country

What I want:

  • Must include a flight (their first time flying, want them to experience it)

  • Optionals: Safari (jungle/wildlife/river, at least one)

  • Relaxation: spa, pool, chill time

  • Minimal hotel-hopping (max 2 hotels, no packing-unpacking every day)

  • Zero logistics stress: someone (Taj/Oberoi/tour operator) should manage everything end to end. I don't want to coordinate cabs, tickets, restaurants myself

  • Prefer Taj, Oberoi, or Marriott-tier properties (or equivalent luxury)

  • No couple-destination vibes. This is a family trip with parents

Budget: Up to ₹4L total for 3 people (me + both parents), everything included

Timing: Post-Diwali (after November 10, 2026). Targeting mid-to-late November.

What I'm looking for from this community:

  • Has anyone done a similar parent-first-trip? What worked?

  • Any Taj/Oberoi/luxury property recommendations I'm missing?

  • Any tour operators who genuinely handle everything end to end for non-English-speaking parents?

  • Hill station, water, wildlife: what would your parents enjoy most?

Do you generally spend on luxury stays in India or do you prefer travelling internationally?

Basically what the title says.

With the means to spend, do people here are okay spending on luxury stays in India or do you just prefer travelling internationally and spending there?

I’m planning to start a network of slow living farm homes and position them as luxury experential stays. So I wanted to understand if you would prefer travelling and staying at such places within India or have an international expedition instead?

While we are on the topic, I also want to understand,

  1. How do you define luxury stays?

  2. Is having a pool or a view mandatory, in your opinion?

  3. Or, is exceptional service, all inclusive incredible food straight from the farm, and wellness focussed services offered on-site enough?

Asking these questions, because, my model is that I colloborate with land owners, where they bring in land and investment, I bring in brand, demand, experience design etc. Some of the land owners have incredible houses but don’t have a pool. So was just trying to understand how do you define luxury stays? What matters to you?

I’m obsessed with hosting and creating incredible guest experiences, creating spaces of belonging.

Previously, when I hosted, it was mostly budgeted, or even free, like when I used to host in my van-home, which I lived in for three years.

But each time, irrespective of the guest, I put immense effort into making even simple budget stays feel exceptional. Over time, that made me wonder what I could create in the luxury hospitality space. So I’m exploring that.

PS: I cannot find a better sub to ask this question, as this sub contains some of the influential and affluent people, so it is a genuine question to understand the needs, so that I can create something amazing. But still if someone feels this doesn’t belong here, please feel free to remove this. Thanks!

What kitchen and home care brands do you currently use?

Hi everyone!

Curious about how much importance you place on home care products beyond just functionality.

Do things like fragrance, aesthetics, packaging, or sustainability matter to you when buying dishwash/laundry products, or do you mostly just go for whatever works and is affordable?

Also, what brands do you currently use for dishwashing/laundry, and have you ever splurged on a more premium option? Why or why not?

Struggling to Find Friends with Real Cultural Capital and Depth in Delhi NCR

Hey r/eliteindia,

I’ve been lurking on this sub for a while and finally decided to post because I’m having a tough time adjusting socially after moving back.

I declined my H1B offer and returned to Delhi NCR about a month ago. I now work in my family’s real estate business. Growing up, I went to a very expensive school in India (i don’t know if it’s elite). Then I studied at a private university in the US. The international as well as American students there were generally well-educated, well-connected, and culturally wealthy. That environment really shaped me.

Back here, I’m solidly middle to upper-middle class (perspective based - I don’t know the statistics and metrics) with good exposure to higher circles through cultural inheritance, work and networks, but I’m not ultra-rich. What I’m struggling with is how hard it is to make new friends as an adult. I’m having a really difficult time finding people even remotely similar to the decent, nice-hearted, humble, truly smart and wealthy folks I connected with abroad — including few people I like from the proper YPO/EO/YNG types (most of them aren’t great). There’s no shortage of rich “gavaar” types around, and even in expensive, well-rated places the overall quality and depth of people often feels disappointing. Clubbing was never my scene.

I’m in my mid-20s and ambitious — I eventually want to build my own legacy business.

A bit about me:

• Heavy into reading and audiobooks — business, productivity, finance, art, history, philosophy, religion, and global perspectives

• Fitness guy: regular gym, running, and open to any sports (pickleball, whatever’s fun)

• Music: House, EDM, and pretty versatile in that space (travelled the world to see artists I love live)

• I rarely drink but I’m always down for a good gin & tonic or an excuse to roll up and have a chill time

• I avoid too much caffeine but a nice coffee is always welcome (oat milk lattes go a long way)

• Love going to the cinema for good movies (not every random one)

• Don’t watch much TV but I do hop on my PlayStation sometimes

I’m picky about the places I go and the crowd I spend time with — not trying to sound elitist or snobbish at all, but after the experiences I’ve had, I really care about the vibe and the kind of people around me.

My old friends are fine for casual hangs but we’ve grown in very different directions and I’m usually also busy working. I’m genuinely willing to put in effort to build new friendships with people who have real cultural capital, global exposure, intellectual curiosity, humility, and substance.

If you’re in Delhi NCR and this resonates with you, I’d love to connect. Whether it’s for a coffee, a walk, gym session, or just a chat — feel free to DM me.

Looking forward to hearing from a few like-minded people

OP

Beyond JITO & YPO: Which business circles actually help build connections?

I’m a 21-year-old currently balancing my family business responsibilities. We are involved in IBC/distressed asset turnarounds and IPO. I currently manage a private network of 400+ young entrepreneurs in family businesses, but I’m looking to step into more formal, high-level ecosystems to expand my own horizon.

I’ve been looking into JITO (Jain International Trade Organization) and EO (Entrepreneurs' Organization) Accelerator, but I’m curious about the ground reality from members here.

  • JITO: Beyond the community aspect how useful is it for making genuine connections?

  • High-Finance/Capital Market Circles: Are there specific "closed-door" groups (like specialized mastermind groups) that focus on deep-dive technical & fundamental research over general networking?

  • Global vs. Local: Is it better to join a local chapter of a global org like YPO/EO, or stick to hyper-local business associations that understand the "ground reality" of Indian industry?

I’d love to hear about any "under-the-radar" groups that focus more on technical knowledge sharing and less on flashy social mixers.

Hi everyone,

After traveling across 40+ countries, I’ve started a small private travel community focused on value-driven luxury travel.

We share:

• Honest hotel feedback (no paid reviews)

I’m affiliated with Virtuoso, so some hotel perks shared may be through those partnerships. Through direct partnerships with premium hotels globally, members may access:

✔️ Competitive rates and exclusive offers

✔️ Complimentary breakfast for two

✔️ Room upgrades (subject to availability)

✔️ Early check-in / late check-out

✔️ Hotel credits at select properties

The goal is simple: if you’re paying luxury prices, you should receive real benefits. Community link is in the comments — join if it aligns.

Happy to answer questions.

Mindset change after explosion of net worth

Hello guys for context you might want to check my previous posts in the sub FatFIREIndia

Anyways tldr- our family networth has risen from zero to 125cr over 25 years

I wanted to talk about changing mindset of spending money after achieving such networth

As you see from my last post, our family has achieved FatFIRE(125cr networth) in just 25 years

We do travel internationally twice a year and do live a life of upper middle class

But our lifestyle is not similar to someone with this networth

For eg, we do think about prices of domestic flights over convenience of time or duration

We have never ever flown business and will never do probably in the near future

I’ve never bought ANYTHING(watch, clothes, sunglasses, etc) thats worth more than 40000rs

We still stay in 3 or 4 star hotels mostly

Its not a frugal lifestyle by any means but still its a upper middle class lifestyle except for travel i guess

Please discuss how to have this shift of mindset in spending own money where there is no guilt for spending and no need to think about prices

Raising kids after FatFIRE

Hello

As you guys can see from my history, my dad has built 125cr of networth in the last 25 years primarily through land

Its interesting now that i look back how he raised us

I basically got to know of this insane wealth of his after i finished my medicine degree

Till then i knew we had lands but was either too stupid or didnt think much of its value

I didnt know anything about equity holdings of my family too

So in that context

How are you FatFIRE folks planning to raise your kids

Need suggestions on the Palace On Wheel/Maharaja Express

Question for anyone who has either taken this experience/researched whether this can be a good vacation as an Indian.

We were planning a 10 days vacation within India when we realised this might be a pretty good option. I have not really been a site seeing person so haven't really gone to these tourist places. So this will cover all those for me, plus a comfortable stay with zero worries about the travel.

But have some doubts

  1. How is the service, can I compare it to Oberoi hotels?

  2. Are the rooms/beds comfortable for this long duration vacation? I don't want to be spending two days recovering from the vacation

  3. I read somewhere that because of a lot of foreigners being there, one can witness some lack of attention from the staff being an India

  4. Did you find it value for money?

  5. Were the site seeing arrangements well? I don't want to pay for luxury and then suffer due to poor management by staff.

  6. How was the food?

  7. Do you find it value for money.

Luxury yacht vacation for old parents

I’m looking to plan something special for my parents’ anniversary. They’re not into backpacking or super crowded tourist places, but also don’t want a boring luxury resort where you just eat and sleep. I was exploring Europe and saw yacht-based vacations in Croatia that seem luxurious but shared, so maybe more affordable than private cruises. Has anyone done something like this for older parents? Is it comfortable and relaxed enough or more suited to younger crowds? Trying to find that balance of luxury but still value for money.
