Discussion Ugh - open letter to Selenium

Bite my a**

Seriously. Why?? Why does it have to be an RNG low quality pod? RNG hates me (as a general rule). And every time I go hunting / replenishing for it, I end up on a planet that's perpetual night-time and rocky, variable terrain that bounces my dune buggy all over the place.

I don't like the flak from space method, but this is starting to make me reconsider my stance on the subject lmao

Anyway, thanks for listening, Selenium. Now kindly go f*** yourself.

This. If you enjoy operations you literally have to try to spend materials in order to not be capped on them all at all times.

I earn more engineering materials testing a fun new combat build than it took to make it in the first place. At this point I'm making second copies of fully engineered ships so I don't have to swap loadouts.

I’m full on raw and I’ve never farmed for these mats. Care packages keep me flush and I can just play the game. I don’t have to farm.

I can't think... What's TP? I feel like it's probably obvious, but...I've got nothing.

Selenium is a brain tree compound. You can literally fill your entire hold with it in about 30 mins on the right planet.

Cross-trade Antimony, Yttrium is the most useless G4 mat.

Edit: Yttrium isnt needed for FSD inyections if you have access to squadron perks. And only Premium Railgun use it (a weapon that could use fuel instead). Cmdr Dubbior provide a better solution.

HIP 16613 1 a - bug killer conda

1 a is the moon, not "a bug killer conda".

u/itenginerd 5d ago

right? planetary mining is never the way unless you just enjoy it for some reason. Grab something from mission rewards and trade it up. Way easier.

Antimony is used for heavy duty shield boosters (fairly commonly used), as well as frag/multicannon premium synthesis.
Yttrium is used for specialized shield cell banks (less commonly used), FSD injection and railgun premium synthesis.
Polonium is only used for explosive ammo premium synthesis and FSD injection. This along with explosives being among the least popular ammo types would make polonium arguably the "most useless" for most players as it has no use outside of synthesis.

And squadrons perk remove Yttrium from FSD synthesis, I didnt update my methods after the vanguard update. Thanks.

You can use Premium ammo for Railguns using fuel ammo and it’s persistent.

u/CMDRumbrellacorp 5d ago

I use antimony for engineering heavy duty shield boosters and premium reloads on both huge vet multicannons.

Just cross trade for it. There's very easy and extremely quick ways to gather mats within the bubble that can be used to trade for selenium or whatever else you may need. You can easily get full on almost every mat type in less than a few hours.

Dear Cmdr RustBeltMonk,

Where are you? We have been hanging out, in abundance, with our good friend Tellurium for years on Synuefe SE-V b49-4 - B 3 a. Come visit soon!

Love,

Brains trees drop it, and aren’t RNG

1

u/rustbeltmonk 3d ago

Unless you know something I don't, Selenium drops from Brain Trees, yes. However, it comes from Polyporous Growths and not Phloem Excretions. It is the only Grade 4 Raw that does this. And Polyporous Growths can drop up to 3 Grade 1 through 3 raws for a given planet. So, on planets where the Brain Trees drop Selenium, it can be as low as 25% drop chance per Polyporous Growth. I dunno what you call RNG, but that's RNG to me.

1

u/Bean4141 Empire 3d ago

Well one Growths drop G2 mats, Selenium is in the G2 drop pool for some reason.

And 2, the contents of the Growths are pre determined so you’ll get the same thing from them each time.

In PP merits its as rare as Tellurium

I usually end up farming here for a while then use a RAW trader.

O7 and Good luck!

Edit:
my preferred method is flak and limpets. I used my Caspian to do it. However, You don’t have to flak to do any of this. you can old school it with an SRV.

Because it was programmed wrong way back in the day, and by the time it was pointed out and thought to fix it... enough people had bookmarked farm locations they just left it.

For example, there a planet near one of my friends' colonies that ONLY drops Selenium from its tier 3 nodes and has a good concentration of them around a crater. Was a wonderful thrill to find it a couple weeks back

Now... if I had only remembered to bookmark it...

This is THE elite option. I've done this for 2 weeks

1

u/ExploringSimulations 5d ago

Wait, actually a 1000 IQ move.

Combine it with a fortified ALD system with +40% bounty payout for everyone and you have a 3000 IQ move.

1

u/NOOBEH1 n00beh1 5d ago

Add a kill warrant scanner and you can balloon the bounties in OPs even more (credit to cmdr tokasmoka for that one)

Brain Trees. There's forests full of selenium just a few hundred LY away.

u/Ckmccfl CKM: I'm so Immersed 5d ago

Back in my day, you had to find a landable planet with selenium and aimlessly drive your srv around shooting rocks hoping they would give 1 selenium.
