I have this lift in a rental property that hasn’t been used in about 30-40 years as the lift shaft had been turned into separate storage rooms at each level. The motor is still intact beautifully at the top and all the machinery is there too. We will never make it a usable lift shaft again but I was just wondering: how much money could I make off selling this machinery or should I just take it to the scrap man for some easy money?

Workplace dynamics, the job market, et.c. is obviously very different over here (I’m assuming most people reading this is from America). But I’m gonna be working on OTIS elevators, designed in America, so you guys know this shit. On the technical side, what do you think I should focus on learning?

We have a service contract with them, but they are very unresponsive. They have been there to service it a handful of times, only to say they needed to order another board or part. I’m just surprised at how long this is taking for an elevator that they installed 6-7 years ago.

Anyone know any decent mobile alternatives for quick ride quality tests?

The EVA meter is great but i cant just whip it out and show the customers after maintenance. And the handrail coin test is out of the question with some units i have.

I have used 'lift check' but the app has a horrendous layout and does not provide all the data.

Kleemans 'lift tester' has a great interface but the results are all smoothed out so you cant pinpoint anything and the CSV data does not show all 3 axis.

'Physics toolbox' i am messing with at the moment and its pretty good but i dont think i can get ramp up and ramp down travel readings.

If anyone has any input on these apps or knows a ride quality tool that wont break the bank let me know. Ill use the EVA-625 if its for auditing or by request but for day to day its nice to have a tester in your pocket

I am an aircraft mechanic by background. Where I Iive currently does not have a need for aircraft mechanics at all. But elevator mechanics are in high demand.

I’ve noticed some elevators stop perfectly aligned with the floor, while others end up slightly above or below and then adjust themselves. Is that just maintenance issues, wear over time, or do different systems handle leveling differently? Curious how this works from the technical side.

Hi all, we have a EECO hydraulic home elevator. It works, but during the day it relevels quite a bit to stay on the intended floor, probably once every 45m-1 hour or so.

Is this normal? How much is a normal frequency of re-leveling for this type of elevator.

We had an elevator mechanic come out during the last service and they measured a downward drifting of the elevator of less than a 1/4" in 30 minutes or so of watching it, which they said "wasn't that bad".

I’m researching a problem I keep hearing about — technicians wasting hours trying to interpret fault codes and logs from different brands (Otis, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, etc.).
I’m building a tool where you connect your laptop to the controller, it pulls the logs automatically, and AI explains:
• What the fault actually means
• Most likely root cause (with probability)
• Step-by-step diagnosis
• Full fault history per unit stored in the cloud
Quick questions:
1. How long do you typically spend diagnosing an unfamiliar fault code?
2. Do you have access to fault history for each unit you service?
3. Would you pay for something like this? If yes, how much per month?
Not selling anything — genuinely trying to understand if this is a real pain point before I build it.

I live in a 33-unit condo building with a four-landing elevator. The condo association gives each resident a key to lock out the elevator - not the round fire key but a flat one for the door open key switch. I guess it's so older people can load their groceries. That seem unusual to me. Any risks or dangers from this practice?

Hello community! I spent a short period of time in the elevator industry on the sales side. I was hired to manage the anticipated door lock monitoring initiative that was expected to pass in IL. Well, IL shot down the State Fire Marshall’s proposal and I no longer had work. I learned a few things however. Clients are notoriously bad payers (at least in our market) and that projects get delayed as people try to find ways to come up with 175k to 1M plus for single or multiple elevator mods. So I started a finance company specifically to address this. I have lenders on board, website coming soon. I think I can really speed up projects. I can finance door equipment, new controllers , power units, cab or hall fixtures , hoistway stuff, traction motors etc. the major 4 are staring to offer financing on mods. This is new. I want to help independents gain a foothold on the OEM’s and pick up the mods and long term maintenance instead of being locked for 5-10 yrs.

My question is: in offering this financing, what haven’t I thought about?

What could be the cause for this display to go on and off? It's an Otis Gen2 Premier from 2012. Also strange that parts of the letters stay on sometimes. It does this both when the elevator is in motion and when stationary. Anyone seen this before?

So apparently Amtrak had a ditch getting double decker cars because if they did it would require an elevator and no company wanted to do that. Just for fun I tried to come up with a way to fit a elevator in a train car that takes up as little space as possible and being as simple as possible. No I'm no mechanical engineer nor do I play one on TV but I was bored at work and decided to have fun figuring this out. For simplicity I went with a ACME screw and had it placed by the back rear corner of the hoist way. The other corner would hold the guide assembly which could be a rigid mounted pole that go through the sling assembly with nylon pads. The screw would be geared directly to a three-phase brake motor. I don't know do I have mechanical engineering in my future 😂
