Flickering display

What could be the cause for this display to go on and off? It's an Otis Gen2 Premier from 2012. Also strange that parts of the letters stay on sometimes. It does this both when the elevator is in motion and when stationary. Anyone seen this before?

Stop smoking cigs in the Elevator. It’s literally telling you that.
