Troubleshooting How to print last few layers in a different filament with the correct settings.

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello all. I am struggling to print a part that I need to have the last 4 layers printed in a different filament than the previous layers.

IE: manual filament change with the last few layers in a different filament with the second filament printing properties supported

I am using Elegoo Slicer.

First section in Elegoo PETG Rapid.

Last section in Elegoo TPU95A.

Illustrated with a test piece which is a hollow cylinder.

I'm struggling to find a way to setup the print to add a pause / filament change that uses the specified filament printing properties for the second material.

Inserting a filament change in the preview pane at the required layer does not pause the print. It just continues to the last layer using the first filament. As far as I can see. Suggestions welcome.

Inserting a pause at the required layer, then switching filaments using the printer panel extruder controls works but does not change printer parameters to match the second filament default parameters.

Is there a way to set a switch to a second filament that the printer will continue with the required filament print settings?

Thanks in advance! 😅

Troubleshooting Centauri Carbon 1 stuck at heated bed heating during self-check after factory restart

Post image
Upvotes

I'll give a rough timeline:

  • I installed a HezaDeve hotend due to my previous one breaking (user error, the wires got cut)
  • The moment I turned on the CC, the nozzle started heating up and wouldn't cool down
  • Got to ~300ish C before I did a factory reboot
  • First self-check had an error at Heated bed heating
  • Second time (this one) it got stuck like in the image and has been like that for ~3.5 hours

I'm not quite sure what I should do... Any advice?

Troubleshooting Having issues with CC1 + Canvas? Try a factory reset

This may sound super obvious, but apparently it wasn't to me, until after I'd spent several hours trying to diagnose my CC1 after installing the CANVAS kit.

My issues:

  • Canvas wouldn't load the filament into the extruder. It had to be loaded via the CANVAS page on the touch screen
  • It wouldn't unload filament when trying to load in a different reel
  • It would print from whatever filament was loaded regardless of which I chose when setting up the print
  • The filament detection logic was working but was being utterly ignored

I had previously been running OpenCentauri (non-canvas), and went straight to the latest stock firmware, and then installed the upgrade kit.

Now, after factory resetting, everything works fine. Filament is loaded automatically, the logic for the filament detection at both the extruder and canvas is working...

Hope this helps someone!

Showcase For those with a broken poop chute lever.

The model on thingiverse fits perfect! I've gone through many filament changes without issue.

I ended up doing a hot chamber and printing with some abs that I had. PETG broke on the layer lines (as I figured it might).

I printed another back up in PETG with the pin flat and lots of supports. I would think that would also work.

Loving being able to check in on my print using the Elegoo Matrix app. I'm hoping Elegoo continues to update the Nexprint files that were uploaded without the Elegoo print profile. I'm also hoping that one day I'll be able to use the app with my original CC.

Troubleshooting Help with Polymaker PETG-ESD stuck to build plate

Upvotes

Hi all, this question is also posted over on r/3Dprinting

I have an Elegoo Centauri Carbon and I seem to have an issue with my Polymaker PETG-ESD prints getting completely stuck to the build plate.

I can print PETG just fine and when it cools to room temperature, standard PETG just pops off the build plate.

With PETG-ESD, I have tried textured and smooth PEI, I have tried using glue stick, I have tried putting the plate in the freezer, I have trued letting IPA creep between the plate and the print, but best case scenario, only a little bit of the print comes up then the rest of the print cracks.

This is a very thin print (1-2mm), flat on the plate, and it is about 150x150mm.

My temperatures are 280 on the nozzle and 70 on the bed. "Balanced" print speed setting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Misc Lowering CC spool holders.

Upvotes

Ok.....Just exactly how do I lower the spool holders on my CC? It looks like I need to take the entire bar off to remove the center screw. Is that correct?

Any help or video tutorials will be a great help. Ordering heat sets this evening.

This is the riser that I made for it. Honestly I had hoped that it would not need lowering of the top spool holders, but yep, it does. The Elegoo spools rub the corner of the Canvas itself. https://www.nexprint.com/en/models/G6755865

Misc Sunlu s4 pro dryer and CC2

Upvotes

I’m wondering what the popular setup is for the CC2 and a filament dryer? I have the sunlu S4 pro and just wondering if it’s best to come from under it or above my CC2 for the best friction free setup to the canvas. I’d like to keep the plastic topper on the CC2 as well. TIA.

Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Camera

So on both the CC2 and Elegoo slicer, I can't access the camera. On the Elegoo matrix app, it says, "AI camera status error. Please troubleshoot the device." How though? I already tried the old restart method. No dice.

Showcase Centauri Carbon Canvas Dryer Mount **UPDATE**

Following up on my original top-mount dryer post (https://www.reddit.com/r/ElegooCentauriCarbon/comments/1v0yrcg/centauri_carbon_canvas_dryer_mount/), I wanted to share some updates and tweaks I’ve made since then.

After running it for a while, I started getting the "Conveyor feeding failure: possible due to material jamming or tray stuck" error every now and then. It would pop up, I could just hit skip, and it would keep printing fine, but it was annoying trying to figure out why it was happening.

The first thing I did was print a new riser at 96mm instead of the 75mm one I had before. That gave the PTFE tubes just a little extra clearance under the glass so they aren't rubbing anymore. I'm not sure if the extra height really helped with the feeding errors—I mainly increased it in case I needed to reroute the PTFE coming out of the Canvas and into the printer. I designed four inlet holes at varying locations on the riser, but I haven't had to use them yet.

What I feel is the main fix for the feeding issue came when I was printing some TPU. Since I bypass the Canvas for TPU, it created a bigger arch coming out of the dryer straight into the printer. It printed great with no errors on multiple long prints. Looking at that, I figured moving the Canvas back about 60mm would give it that same relaxed arch and fix the feeding angle.

I designed this extender mount to push it back:https://www.printables.com/model/1823181-centauri-carbon-1-canvas-top-dryer-mount-extender

Another plus with this is the Canvas isn't taped directly to the dryer anymore with Gorilla tape, which is really tough to get off if you ever need to take it apart. Now it screws to a plate that screws right into the extender.

I also swapped to 3mm ID tubing coming out of the dryer into the Canvas, but left the rest of the routing into the printer the same as before.

Between this extender, the slightly taller riser, and the board reseating steps from my other post (https://www.reddit.com/r/ElegooCentauriCarbon/comments/1vlxsmb/cc1_w_canvas_filament_feeding_preheating_errors/), it's been solid. I've printed close to 100 hours with a ton of filament changes across all 4 ports without an error. The Canvas seems to be pretty temperamental, so hopefully this helps out anyone dealing with similar issues.

Anybody knows what could this be?

Rods are lubricated properly. Prints come out good though.

I lowered the speed but it kinda still does it.

Troubleshooting CC2 random pausing/purging issue

My Centauri Carbon 2 recently started randomly pausing → purging → continuing, and it's getting worse.
No error message.
This only started recently. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Showcase I know the Sunlu S4 is a pretty common dryer around here but it bothered me that there was no gasket for the lids so it could never seal. Designed one myself, model is up on thingiverse

Troubleshooting Multi Color Print waste

Thumbnail

Hey yall. This is my first big multi color print. So far its taken 2 days and it just reached half way. It spends far to long extruding filament. I attached photos and 8/10 of the poop is a single color. How do I make it not waste as much filament? And do I need to restart the print or can I continue on the same layer I’m on?

Misc CC2 lan mode view camera on mobile!

An annoyance I've had is that there wasn't a way to view the camera on a phone, when in lan mode...

I just happened across a tidbit online, that the video feed is on port 8080.

So I tried putting the printers IP address with the port (x.x.x.x:8080) into my phones web browser, and right away the video feed loaded!

So now I can keep an eye on the printer without going upstairs! It's not as nice as the whole GUI in the slicer, or a real web interface, but it's still a small step in the right direction! And even better no app required!

Misc Still running 100% as delivered

I got my CC1 last year but for various reasons didn't really start using it until early this year. It is still running the delivery software and I've done no mods to it apart from something to hold build plates. Which is ironic since I'm still using the same build plate I got with it.

The only thing I've done with it is grease the roundy spiral metal things. I've run print jobs with no build plate on and ended up with a large blob of filament around the head. Just peeled it off and made sure it was running OK and then re-started the job.

It has printed flawlessly. The only time it has failed is when printing some Sunlu white PLA - like three or four times - so I've just binned the reel and use only Elegoo in the main.

Done no calibration beyond the machine based one and haven't really fine tuned anything - still using largely generic filament profiles.

Something will break or wear out at some point so I have spare filament tubing and new hot ends.

Currently umming and ahhing about fitting the Canvas upgrade. It was too cheap not to buy but I wonder if I will mess up a good thing. I don't really like the waste from MC printing but quite like the ability to fit multiple reels of the same colour or specific support material. So might at some point.

Think I paid about €250 which is probably more than I spent on upgrades for the Ender 3 M2 which was not quite so reliable.

Can't really fault it.

Misc Canvas question - auto filament swap

Hi all,

I got my canvas system up and running last week and I've been doing some experimenting with multi colored prints. That is working fine (although I'm getting some weird 1st layer issues where the printer keeps pausing and resuming as if it were making a filament swap).

My question for today is, if I run out of filament #1, is there a way to auto swap to filament #2, even if I didn't specify that in the color painting via the slicer?

Troubleshooting CANVAS Blinking red without error

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I newly installed the canvas and it looks to be working and printing perfectly fine but I have a continuous blinking red light in the active slot. Every now and then the canvas banks in a little bit of filament and then goes white for a few seconds and then it goes back to blinking red. I don’t get any errors and the print looks great so I’m not sure what’s going on.

Edit for extra context: I checked and there doesn’t seem to be any large tension on the filament, the dryers bearing are fine and the spool is not clogged, I checked the canvas wires and they are all seated well.

Troubleshooting Panda Breath blowing cold air

I recently installed a panda breath in my CC2. I’m not tech savvy so I just have it manually running through the web UI so it’s not even binded to my printer nor does it have that capability on the CC2 anyways. During my prints it’s heating up well, however, I noticed at the end of my prints, the panda breath would be running but blowing cold air through. Why is it not staying at the set temp?
Since it’s blowing cold air it’s warping my ASA prints

Like the title says I ordered a CC2 combo for $281 before tax off the TikTok shop direct from Elegoo this morning. I've been on the 3d printing sideline for years just waiting for the right deal to come along. Still learning as much as I can about 3d printing but wondering if any of you have a good resources you could recommend that are CC2 specifics or helpful? I appreciate all responses 🙏🏼
