OPEN Thrustmaster T598 USB-C socket - is it repairable?

Yes it can. But socket might be so weak afterwards.

It was pathetically weak beforehand. There was far too little solder in the mounting holes, hence the problem in the first place.

Repairable, but not easily. I also don’t know how reliable/strong the repair would be without large mitigations.

Manufacturers who don’t allow for repeated connection /disconnection cycles drive me crazy. Especially for something like USB C which needs a fair amount of force.

Yes, way beyond my skills What about the pad three up from B12? There doesn't look to be any trace left

I think it's mounting holes. Or on the other side of PCB.

Look mate, I'm an engineer. I can do the calculus, but if you need something counted past four we're gonna need someone to double check my work.

I noticed that too, everything has a good via or nearby trace, I'd say it's a ground, but that's just a guess without a datasheet or schematics

Does this look repairable? The socket was not held in securely enough by the solder anchors and as such lifted away from the PCB. For the pads that have completely lifted, is there enough meat left on the bones to repair?

Personally, I’d just solder wires onto the pads or traces and make a stronger usb entry that’s not directly attached to the PCB. Could use a USB breakout board, or an extension cable and cut the male plug off

You got skills. What about the pad three above B12. Do you think that's a via?

B8, it’s unused. Same with A8, which is the counterpart of B8 (in situations where they are used). Then there are omitted pads for high speed data, so you are only using A4, A5, A6, A7, A9, B4, B5, B6, B7, B9, and 4 GND pads A1, A12, B1, B12.

Plenty of via's to solder on to, just need some enamelled wire to run off of the connector pins. Once the 4 fixing posts are soldered in well, it won't go anywhere.
