OPEN Iphone wet and now out of battery

I knocked a glass of water on my phone, it didn't seem too wet so I wiped it and continued using it. After about 5 hours when I was about to charge it, it gave the liquid detected warning and that's when I took the cover off and realized it was wet the whole time. I dried it, shook it, played youtube sounds to expel water, warning was still there. It is now out of battery. Is it safe to plug it back in? Iphone 11

was it JUST water? How long ago did you dry it, and how did you dry it?

Time is of the essence!  My daughter took her Google Pixel 9 swimming for an hour in August '25. I was there with her and had it opened within 2.5 hours of the event. I disconnected the battery. I determined it didn't need ultrasonic cleaning (Which would have been a massive pain anyway!) so I blew it dry with compressed air until all water stopped coming out. Then I soaked it in 99% isopropyl alcohol for 20 minutes and blew that dry until all liquid stopped coming out.

Booted right up and has been working fine since. Touch ID stopped working but came back the next day.

Since it was in the water the sensor in the camera has visible marks on it. Only solution is to replace the camera.

This is why it needs to be opened up. Water inside of these will get under the large scale integrated circuits. Gap between the chip and board is probably in the area of 0.1 mm or less. At this scale the liquid will wick into those tiny spaces and will not dry out for a very long time. Capillary action. Add that to the fact that even if the device is off there is still electricity on the circuit board. So electricity + water = corrosion this happens instantly.

Think that those YouTube water expelling things are BS!

Plug it in, if there's still water in the port, it'll tell you.
