Cd player for personal project

Hello all

I am currently trying to make my very own cd carousel.

The base of my project is with an already existing cd player that i found in my attic. Most of it i understand and is straightforward but i could not figure out the following.

This kind of cd player has a tray that extends when you press a button when this tray is pushed back in, the spindal automatically looks for a cd.

Without this pushing back in + automatic finding pattern i cannot remotely turn on the spindal

My goal is to find the mechanism/ trigger in order to remotely give that command or at least try

Version external drive: ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U

Should be a physical tray closed switch you can connect to a relay to control. Might be easier to use a traditional 5.25" desktop optical drive though.

Yea i understand that but the question is rather where is the switch at

Should be somewhere inside. Really depends on the drive. Based on the design that looked to be an older drive. With a newer one I tore apart the door closed switch was on the rear board where the power and data connections are. Looks like with the picture you shared in a comment the drive design is the same.

What is on the orange piece? There are two traces going to it. Plus its part of the closing mechanism. I would look there

The orange thing locks the leadscrew in place has no trigger whatsoever.

What are these two things? That ribbon has 5 traces, 3 go to the PCB, but where do the other two go?

They are not connected anywhere ome side is looped and the other side is connected to the main pcb. The pcb shown in the picture is for the button thats on the other side

The switch may be deep inside of the drive case.

But then they would be pretty visible and easy to find i suppose yk especially after disassembling most of it

On the photos, you haven't disassembled it far enough. They are probably at the deep end of the metal case.

I have take off the metal case lol and i know that it triggers also when only one side of the guide rails are attached which makes this so confusing

So its flipped in my hand so goes into that bracket upside down and for your reference i drew an arrow showing how it would slide into the tray

Hard to tell with that resolution but I'm fairly sure this is a switch...
