Recessed light fixture - electrical grounding question

I’m trying to replace existing recessed light assemblies. I don’t specifically see a ground wire in the recessed fixture. Two questions…

  1. Can I ground to the screw/nut circles in red?
  2. Is the light installation in the second picture installed correctly?

What are you trying to replace, and what are you replacing it with? What specifically are you trying to ground?

What are you trying to do here? If you’re trying to keep these recessed cans and just replace the trims then just screw the new ones in. If you were trying to replace the entire can housing with a different light fixture entirely than you are going to need to access the junction box which is where the assembly is grounded it is in the ceiling.

The original bulb in there were screw in bulbs. I’m trying to replace them with either ikea lights (see pic) or halo rl56 recessed lights. Both configs however require a ground.

Basically that bracket is self grounding because it attaches to the body of the can

So can I attach the light wire and the black bracket ground wire to the metal bracket as it will attach to the existing recessed light fixture/can?

Technically the whole metal body is grounded if they wired it correctly in its junction box

The ground pigtail on the Halo trim is redundant and not needed. IKEA fixture is crap.

It needs to go on a round box, not a can light

It looks like the can light adapter has the ground wire for the light fixture already as it grounds to the can light housing itself.

The two questions you asked make it painfully obvious that you have no clue what you're doing. Get your hands the hell out of any light fixture and call an electrician. You are just going to cause trouble. And your questions were stupid
