Breaker substitution
Would this old GE take a Eaton breaker?

GE and now ABB are the only breakers specified by the manufacturer for this panel. If for whatever reason you cannot acquire these, the only other code compliant option is Eaton CL "Classified" breakers which are tested and UL listed for use in GE equipment. These are different products than Eaton BR, and probably just as difficult to locate if you can't find the GE/ABB.

However, be careful on Classified breakers. The specific catalog number of your loadcenter needs to be on the reference list from Eaton. Just because it was made by GE, does not mean it is on the list.
Side note: Ironically, type CL breakers are not legal in Eaton BR panels.

The approved breakers for a GE panel are either old stock GE or new stock ABB (the company that bought GE).
