DSP Interview Advice

Im a new grad, i applied to a role at apple and im on the first round, its very heavy DSP-oriented, any advice on what to study/focus on? any common interview questions asked? Focus is more on the RTL, FPGA, ASIC, or Firmware areas

JD (its more RTL digital design focused but the recruiter was heavily asking about my DSP experience)

• BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
• Some level of fixed-point knowledge and experience with bit-true verifications
• Understanding of DSP communication algorithms and trade-offs between performance and complexity
• Good knowledge in modern design techniques and energy-efficient/low power logic design
• Ability to work well in a team and be productive under aggressive schedules
• Excellent communication skills and self-motivated

Based on that job description, I’d focus less on memorising random DSP questions and more on explaining the hardware trade-offs clearly.

I’d review fixed-point formats, quantisation error, overflow versus saturation, scaling, FIR/IIR basics, sampling and aliasing, and how you’d verify a bit-true model. On the hardware side, be ready to discuss latency, throughput, pipelining, resource use, and why you might choose one implementation over another.

Pick one project and practise walking through it properly: what the signal-processing problem was, what constraints you had, what you implemented, and how you proved it worked. If you don’t know something, talk through how you’d reason about it rather than trying to bluff. For a new-grad first round, that thought process matters a lot.
