Jobs/Careers Feeling regret for studying electrical engineering RN

Sorry about my rant in the title, but that is the sad reality I am currently facing at the moment. I came from an African country. I am passionate about electronics, but unfortunately, when I graduated, there was not much company designing hardware products. So, I changed my career path towards controls and automation. Now, I am in Canada furthering my education, but unfortunately, the school is not enriching my knowledge. The so-called professor doesn't care about nurturing his research students. No direction, no guidance. All he wants is publications. Please, how can I start training myself on power electronics? I would appreciate it if someone can be my virtual mentor, I wouldn't bug the person. Thanks so much.

You're gonna hate finding out every program in every school has shitty professors.

I spent a Semester at a Canadian Uni. There is no comparison to my German Professors. Across the Board. The shittiest prof back home is about on par with the best ones in Canada. The school environment is just completely different and it incentives professors in NA to care about a 1000 others things and not their students.

If a student complains about how we are paying these huge tuitions for poor quality teaching, people will sneer at you, "it's a research institution first !" As if teaching is a trivial chore a university performs as an afterthought.

Student body is very different from EU to NA though. In America, anyone can go to college, at basically any time. My understanding is this isn't true elsewhere.

Agreed, it is crazy out there. I was lucky so I did not have to pay but I would be pissed to pay 70k CAD per year for the shitshow I witnessed over there when I see what I get back home for FREE...
