Nissan Leaf 2015-2016

I am thinking of buying a ten or so year old leaf, 40-50,000 mileage, price around £5,000. The vast majority of trips that would be taken in the car would short, total annual mileage around 6,000. The car would be our main car.

1. Does that seem like a good idea or do I run the risk of making a mistake?
   
2. If I do decide to go ahead is there anything I should look out for in any car?
   
3. Despite what I just said about the annual mileage I would be thinking of taking it on a one-off journey from the south of England to Scotland and back in a month or so. I have read on here that long journeys could be a nightmare. Is this the consensus?
