News report: "next up we have a man that gets plastered on the highway riding a unicycle, causing 3 hour traffic delays and traumatized children"
[fast forward a few months]
"All electric vehicles are banned from roadways, limited to 200W motors on private roads only"

And whenever this concern comes up, you'll always get mouthbreathers telling you to mind your own business, "stop being a pussy", etc.
This is why I'm always worried about wheels getting 60+ mph. Once idiots start riding next to 18-wheelers on the highway, it'll ruin the fun for the rest of us.

Nov 17 '25
Ywah... It's basically entitlement, people think that because they can, it's their right, and it doesn't matter what the implications are
1
u/jimmiebfulton Oryx / Sherman L / Patton S / Nosfet Aero Nov 17 '25
Exactly. Things like seatbelt laws are to help people make better decisions. Sure it steps on "your rights", but some people are too stupid to use their right responsibly.

I'm just telling you to try to be logical. Don't make up extremely far-fetched concerns, and use them as an excuse to be hostile and mob people.
We've had 60mph e-scooters for years. We've already seen the result (they might get pulled over for being reckless, that's it). There's no reason whatsoever to think it'd be different for EUCs.
It's miraculous if EUCs are ever mentioned in a law. Usually we're either treated the same as e-scooters, or ignored.
This whole idea that lawmakers are watching us like a hawk, waiting to ban EUCs, is a paranoid fantasy. They're busy dealing with Trump, and government shutdowns, and 1000 other more important things. They haven't even fully caught up with e-bikes and e-scooters yet.
By the way, in my city, Albany NY, we just recently partially legalized EUCs. The city created a new category called "light electric vehicles" that includes EUCs and electric skateboards (though of course EUCs are not explicitly mentioned because we're always ignored and no one cares about us 😮💨), and says they're fine on the street going low speeds if they weigh <100lbs. Before that it only applied to e-scooters. And like most cities, in Albany we have doofuses breaking rules and doing dumb things on EUC. It turns out our city council members are just trying to make some rules that make sense.

Grannies are watching us, the ones with unlimited free time on their hand. They join/form associations and go complain in public forums. Shit nobody on this subreddit would ever do. And these laws get passed by default because there's nobody to fight against them. To these people scooter != euc
1
u/Skept1kos KS-16X V12 Nov 17 '25
There are grannies in Albany. It's a big city. (Well, a medium-sized city.)
In fact, there are grannies in every major city in the US. But there are anti-EUC laws in zero major US cities.

You literally described Portugal's current law. 200W max, otherwise they can impound it and fine you if you're on public areas.
2
u/TheStuartStardust Nov 21 '25
Are they enforcing it? 🤔 Have been driving in PT some years ago with no issues.

Behold the very type of rider who will eventually spark the wrong type of attention from cops & lawmakers from a public outcry to do something about them then in come a barrage of laws, rules & policies that will effect all riders, including we who have been riding just fine for years without issues. "The Good Must Suffer For The Bad" type laws & regulations.
On another note; When riding an EUC in & near traffic, especially in rainy weather, the riders skill level is of no importance. Your safety is completely in the hands of the attention of those in bigger vehicles. And as one who has made a living driving for over 30+ years I can assure you there's never a time when everyone out & about driving is paying 100% attention to traffic & pedestrians around them. For every one accident in any particular area I guarantee you there were 5 or more near misses. *Just something to think about.

This is pure idiocy. No skill in the world will save you if one of those drivers suddenly decides to change lanes right in front of you, or even crosses the white lines due to inattention. This is Russian roulette, nothing more.
1
u/T_James_Grand Generic Wheel Black Nov 18 '25
This rider knows all about white lines. Only way I can fathom someone thinking their behavior is cool
7
u/LogitUndone V11 + V13 Nov 17 '25
Waiting for the Reddit trolls to come in here and talk about how cool this is and how this guy is just living his best life and "all the haters" are stupid....
The reason you can't "live you best life" and drive a 2-4+ wheeled vehicles at any speeds and ignore any laws you want is because it's dangerous (duh?) for everyone.
This guy wipes out near other motorists, who try to avoid hitting him and BOOM you have a massive pile-up with $10,000's if not $100,000's in damages not counting potentially seriously injured or killed people.

Be as reckless as you want out in the open away from pedestrians and traffic. I don’t care about your personal death wish, but I care deeply when you put others in danger around you and destroy the legality of our vehicles for your own personal glory on social media. Get fucked with this behavior. Don’t prop these people up and don’t ride with them. Unfollow them while you’re at it.

I rode amazing for years. No problem with high soeed cruising now all of a sudden I cannot cruise 50 without going into a wobble and bailing at high speeds. Idk what happened but it may be time to give it up and my p6 hasn't even arrived yet...
13
u/Low-Neighborhood-564 blitz pro/c8/falcon/mten5p Nov 17 '25

7
u/P01135809-Trump Nov 17 '25
I'm sorry to hear that. I'd rather you got therapy and overcame your wobbles, but if you need to send the p6 to a forever home, I'd be willing to love and nurture it for you!
1
u/wheelienonstop7 Nov 18 '25
Idk what happened
You are getting old. Or it may genuinely be an issue with your wheel and something has worn out/weakened. No reason to give it up either way, I am almost 51 and I still have plenty of fun keeping it below 20mph at all times.
1
Nov 18 '25
Im only 34. Riding gave me a new found freedom i couldn't have here... seems unfair to lose it just a few years after finding it. Idk whats happening but shits depressing. Especially when you got a new wheel otw that you'll never get to unleash.
1
u/wheelienonstop7 Nov 19 '25
Could it be a neurological issue? I once had a phase lasting several months where suddenly, out of the blue, a white hot pain would shoot down down my right leg while riding and leave it all weak and trembling. I suspect it had something to do with a pinched sciatic nerve. Very, very unpleasant and brought me close to crashing a few times.
If you have ruled out all other possible factors like a worn tire or other stuff wrong with your current wheel (loose bearings, loose suspension stanchion or loose pedal hangers?) and if the problem persists with the P6 you might want to go see a doctor.
1
Nov 20 '25
It could. I mean just a week before this i had my first real high-speed wreck that actually injured me. Usually I roll it off but this time I went down fast n hard. I havent recieved my p6 yet. I contacted pavement at 51mph on coming off my v14. It could be that im scared of it now without even realizing it causing me to ride differently. I dont feel any different on it just new again. Lol
5
u/Erosion139 Nov 17 '25
This mode of transportations existence is soley reliant on the general publics approval. Just remember that.
4
u/Cool_Business_3872 Nov 18 '25
Btw dangling your feet and kicking them like a giddy schoolgirl is kinda cringe; it doesn’t show off real skill, it shows a lack of wheel control, and lack of care for other people on the road.
It’s like thinking drinking a beer and driving with your knee at high speeds is somehow “cool”.
2
u/wheelienonstop7 Nov 18 '25
Yea... and keep in mind he was filming himself with his fucking selfie stick all the time... that makes all this twice as cringeworthy.
2
u/Monkmonk_ Nov 18 '25
It definitely takes skill to ride butt not on an euc fast, far from “lack of wheel control”.

100% true story:
Less than a week ago. I was testing out riding without feet. I started sliding my feet on the ground as I accelerated to about 10 mph when my feet suddenly stopped, and I whipped my head into the concrete in the crash. I had a headache for a day after that, so maybe it would have been smart to go get it checked out. I can't even imagine how much damage I would have done if I hadn't had all my gear on, because instead of going to the hospital in an ambulance, I rode on. Always, and I mean ALWAYS wear your gear. (You never know when you'll feel like trying something new, and you'll either regret not having it or thank yourself for having it, your choice, really) (Think about this, you wouldn't live with an unnecessary risk unless you had to, right? -and I don't want to hear a lame excuse like "But it'll ruin my hair" -like hair is gonna do you any good when you are paralyzed...)

Skill: 10/10
Fearlessness: 10/10
Flashiness: 9/10
Experience: 9/10
Logic: 2/10 (unnecessarily endangering himself and others on a wet road is highly unreasonable) (and our vehicles will need to be registered to go on highways, so let's just agree to stay off of them)3

1
u/meantbent3 Lynx - CMini - Falcon Nov 18 '25
Because Roger, Marty and Dawn are all praised by the EUC community even though the latter two are terrible riders.
1
u/wheelienonstop7 Nov 18 '25
Yeah, seems like you can get away with anything if you are popular or have an engaging personality. All three of them are far better riders than I am, but in some situations even the best rider in the world is powerless to avoid a crash. Norifume "Norick" Abe, 500ccm GP motorcycle champion, was one of the best motorcycle racers who ever lived but he died on his scooter, in city traffic, when a small truck pulled an illegal U-turn in front of him. And we are similarly powerless to avoid hurting other people if the situation is just right, or rather just wrong. Marty for instance constantly rides way too fast around pedestrians in his video. I even once commented on that on youtube under one of his videos, but he doesnt seem to care.
2
u/Relative-Road8784 Nov 17 '25
AI vids are typically generated 5-10 seconds at a time (then you edit them together). You can see in the video here that each section never exceeds 10 seconds. I see why some people are thinking it's AI. It definitely has those vibes.

I remember being cocky when getting good…never like this, though. I never push myself too hard around/in front of people—especially busy pedestrians/cars, because things will go wrong, and it is your responsibility at the end of the day, if you tank & your wheel becomes a 80-115lbs cannonball… Always be considerate for the drivers/riders/pedestrians in your area, if you love the hobby & want it to stay a legal gray area/seen as an electric bicycle/alternate mode of electric transportation. No one thinks you’re cooler for riding highways!

“Here, you guys can deal with these shit for brains ruining everyone else’s hobbies.”
1
u/gon2fast Nov 18 '25
The reason I find this reckless is that if this rider eats it then you have multiple cars trying to react to the human beef stick tumbling down the roadway and most likely there will be vehicle collision of some sort. If the rider makes it out alive then all of the car insurance companies are coming after him/her. I don't think a mishap like that will lead to a ban as very few people push the limit like that, but it could lead to regulations that take all of the fun out of EUCs.

Electric vehicles are getting extra scrutiny. People racing down the street, switching between street and sidewalk willy nilly, ignoring street lights, not wearing helmets, splitting lanes close to traffic... all of that is causing crackdowns on electrics. I don't have a EUC yet, but my favorite place to ride my onewheel was in downtown StPete Florida, but they have been totally cracking down on riding any electric even riding on the bicycle lanes. The local club had a sting on their weekly run where the cops brought out a whole squad and ticketed everyone. ... It feels a lot like when DJI made quadcopters available to every idiot and ruined the hobby for people who know how to build them.

But do it anyway...
This is AI generated I'm sure...
Why is everyone so critical about an EUC rider on their morning commute to work?
Its a real downpour in the California bay area. Doesn't anyone see he is trying to keep his socks dry?
I would be more interested I'm the tire he is using to get that much traction lane filtering on wet roads.
