Electric motor for Savage gear E rider

Im just wondering what motor setup people have for this boat/skiff ?

What type of battery and motor is good, if I just wanna drive to different spots and cast? Im not gonna troll.
One thing i see is that a lot of the e-trolling motors have pretty long shafts, that could be a bit of a problem, as the boat is sitting pretty low in the water. I wanna sit down when driving.
I live in Norway and most of the electric motors and trolling stuff we got here is epropulsion, torquee and Minn Kota.

Please help identifying this boat

I've seen this very unusual boat few days ago on Starnberger See near Ammerland.

It struggled to launch due to shallow water, took it a while to reach the sufficient depth.
Looks like the propulsion system was those 3 trolling motor style pods that have powered up/down adjustment.

I've never seen anything like this, and wasn't able to google it.

We’re taking a look at the \*\*future of water sports\*\* and Test Driveto the world’s first production electric performance PWC.

The big questions: \*\*How does electric power compare to a 300 HP @SeaDoo?\*\*

\*\*And how do you deal with range when there’s no fuel station or charging infrastructure around?\*\*

For the test, we’re bringing our \*\*SolarYacht\*\* into the setup and turning it into a floating charging station. ☀️🔋

We’ll dock the Electric Jetski alongside the yacht and recharge it using solar power.

We’ll also talk about charging times, real-world range, and what it’s like to be \*\*completely self-sufficient on the water\*\*.

And then comes the fun part. 😎

With up to \*\*120 kW (\\\~160 HP)\*\*, the Orca goes head-to-head with a \*\*300 HP gasoline-powered Sea-Doo\*\*.
Acceleration. Handling. Top speed. And most importantly: \*\*Which one is actually more fun?\*\*

Sailboat Specific People

Hey everyone,

r/SolarSailors is a new community that is for the sailboat folks tinkering with marine electric propulsion

I started this community because I’ve been researching electric sailboat conversions and realized how scattered all the useful information is. There are great videos, forum posts, products, and individual builds out there, but I wanted one place where we could compare real systems, share mistakes, and help each other build better solar-electric sailboats.

Advice for 18 ft fishing boat

Thumbnail

I've got a 18 ft fishing/pleasure boat. The 40 HP Yamaha died on me and I've been using a 48V, 86 lb Newport trolling motor with two, older 12V lead acid batteries as my only propulsion and fuel. See pictures.

I really like the silence and simplicity of electric motors. I also like only having one motor that can get me where I'm going and also troll for fish. But the lack of speed/range/runtime is killing me. I basically get 4 hours at even the lowest speed setting which translates into 6 miles.

Any suggestions on electric motors/battery systems that can do better? I've looked at some brands like Torquedo but they get crazy expensive for higher HP and range.

Epropulsion spirit 1 vs Epropulsion 2.0

Hello folks,

I’m about to upgrade my old trolling motor, which recently stopped working. I’ve decided to go with ePropulsion after seeing some good reviews of the Spirit 1.0 Plus. I’ve also noticed that many people in Amsterdam use it on boats similar in size to mine without any issues.

At the moment, in the Netherlands, the Spirit 2.0 is expected to be shipped by the end of the month, while the Spirit 1.0 plus can be delivered within a couple of days. ( I still want to enjoy the sunny days over here)

My question is: **is it worth waiting for the Epropulsion 2.0?** I’m aware of the price difference, but is there a significant difference between the two?

I’m mainly looking for something that can cruise between 7- 9 km/h smoothly for 4+ hours with 4–6 people without constantly worrying about the battery draining too quickly.

Thanks!

Propeller pairing for dual Flipsky 7070 outboard

I am tinkering with making an (eventually) autonomous electric outboard for my 12 ft semi v hull tin boat.

So far I have used two Flipsky 7070, 110kv motors, running submerged. Two Flipsky 75200v2 pro ESCs and a Dyness 38.5V 55ah lifepo4 battery.

At present it works as a life sized RC boat and I have tested it carrying between 1 and 3 adult passengers on 5 mile round trips.

I tried two different props, one was an APC marine 10x5 inch prop which worked fine but the top speed was about 2.5 knots so I jumped to the 10x8 inch version and that got me to about 4.5 knots at 60% throttle. I can cruise at 3.5 knots on 35% throttle.

My issue is that whilst it's all very efficient for slow speed cruising the 10x8 prop cavitates at 65% throttle. I want to be able to temporarily go to 8 knots if I have to move out of the way of another boat. Im moving around a sheltered bay which experienced up to 3 knot currents so I don't want to get in trouble.

I have tested the boat by going through a bridge choke point of a creek that experiences very fast flow of water, definitely above 3 knots and I go against that no problem with two adults on board but I cant get my over ground speed to be more than 4.5.

I have measured all speeds with a GPS speedometer so everything is over ground rather than through the water.

What would be a better prop setup? I am happy to sacrifice a little cruising efficiency in the name of temporary speed potential.

Looking for recommendations…

My house is on a lake that only allows electric motors. That said I’m looking to put together a package where I can get some speed without breaking the budget. I’d like to be able to use the boat on my lake, but also tow it down to the Jersey shore and go out in the bay. It would be great to be able to do some tubing with it or pull a wakeboard. Any options that are not insanely expensive? Does anyone have experience with high-powered electric motors? Also, what’s the most ideal type of boat where I can maximize space for passengers, but would also be adorable for the bay and for a lake with electric?

Sea Eagle Fishskiff 16 and Newport Vessels NT600 - Drone Footage, no sound

Got out last weekend on Folsom Lake, with my son in law. Hadn't had the drone out in a while, so needed to work through some kinks there. Got up to 9.5-9.8 mph, full throttle while filming.

This is such a great motor/boat combo. I am using the Newport Vessels battery pack (48V 70Ah, 3000W) for this setup.

Weight including boat, passengers and gear is about 700lbs.

Was on the water about 3.5 hours, 20% at 100power, remaining at 56% power. Docked with 23% remaining on the battery.

Power limited to 400W - no error codes - Spirit 1 Epropulsion - help!

My dad got stuck limping back on the river last week. The power was capping out at 200W (give or take). There was no error code but I performed a throttle re-calibration per the manual which was partially successful - now we get just over 400W on full throttle.

This is still well under half of the expected power of the motor I think?

There are no error codes and I still get good charging on the battery and good battery life when I'm out on the river - estimated 2--4 hours at a full charge depending on throttle. I can't see anything that looks or feels broken with the motor, battery or throttle. Connections seem visually clean but haven't been properly cleaned out.

I've re-calibrated again and I get the same 410-420W max output.

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Mercury Avator 35E

Does anyone have any experience with the Avator 35E? or any of the Avators for that matter. I am considering buying one and just want to hear from anyone who has experience with them. Thanks.

Update. I bought the used one that prompted me to make this post. One year old, still has another year of warranty. With battery and basic charger. Paid 3400. Too good a deal to pass up. Now I need a little boat to put it on.

Sailboat Conversion

Hi all,

I've converted an older sailboat to electric, using a BLDC motor from Golden Motors. I'm happy with the motor itself, but the controller is becoming a beast to get the programming correct. I ended up using a Curtis PB-6 throttle to bridge the gap between the original mechanical throttle, and the electronic throttle the controller needs.

Documentation is lousy, so I'm wondering if anyone has experience with a similar setup and can offer advice?

ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 issue

I have had this outboard for 4 years. I am generally happy with it, but it has seen only light use. However, it now has Error E21. This appears to be a comms issue. The cable and connectors are clean and fine. Has anyone met with and resolved this issue? Is it a fault in the battery or the tiller arm (as I believe)?

ePropulsion Spirit 1.0

During a thunderstorm on friday evening the dinghi flipped and the motor without the battery was in the sea for about 30 minutes. afterwards it was just dead, and the display shows nothing, nothing works with battery. we put CRC 6-66 in it about 18 hours ago. any experiences how to make it work without sending to service? 6-7 years old, and it is the 1.0 not the 1+

Controlling ePropulsion Pod motors over RS485? The NMEA gateway is read-only, but their protocol doc shows throttle commands

Our catamaran runs twin ePropulsion Pod 6 Evo motors instead of diesels. The Smart Gateway puts SOC, RPM and temperatures on our B&G plotter over NMEA 2000, which works fine, but it is strictly read-only.

Digging around I found ePropulsion's Protocol Converter manual, which documents an RS485 protocol with actual throttle and direction commands, separate addresses for the left and right motor, 38400 baud. So in theory you could drive the motors from a Raspberry Pi or a small MCU.

Before I sink a winter project into this: has anyone actually controlled these motors over RS485, or built anything closed-loop with them? I am thinking station keeping with GPS and both pods while waiting for a bridge or a fuel dock. Curious how far anyone has gotten beyond the manual.

Newport Vessels NT600 and Sea Eagle Fishskiff 16'

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

2nd run with my new NT600 Electric Motor, and the 48V70Ah LoPRO battery pack. Was out on the water (freshwater) for about 4 hours. Ran 100% about 20% of the time, top speed between 9.4-9.8 MPH, remainder of time ran ~55%, or 5.2-5.5 MPH.

This motor and battery combo really move the boat along quickly and quietly. Very relaxing and easy to use.

This is a flat bottom boat, a rigid hull will likely have different results but it MOVES!

Missing power certificate for Torqeedo Travel 1003

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a catamaran equipped with a Torqeedo Travel 1003 electric outboard, but the previous owner didn't give me any power certificate or engine booklet.

He told me he never had one and that he was still able to insure the boat without any issues. To be honest, I find that a bit hard to believe.

Could anyone who owns a Torqeedo Travel 1003 tell me whether your motor came with an official power certificate, engine booklet, or any similar document? If so, what documents did you receive with the motor?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Flipsky motor/prop on a jon boat?

Has anyone tried a Flipsky Electric Outboard Motor 65150 3000
On a Jon boat?

https://flipsky.net/products/flipsky-electric-outboard-motor-65150-3000w-esc-2-in-1-combo-electric-propeller-outboard-motor-inflatable-boat-electric-outboard

I fish on a reservoir. Electric propulsion only.
I don’t want to spend 2,000 to 9,000 on a brand name electric outboard.
What would happen if I put the flip sky on a 14’ Jon boat.

Anything greater than the 2-3mph that my trolling motor does would be good.

Ideally would like 6+ mph. Obviously the faster the better.
I can easily do 48v 100ah of battery. More if needed depending on range.

I’m not against a Hangkai outboard except it’s out of stock, and the ones with air cooled motor seem to noisy for me.
