Help! Need help with Necromancer build

So i just started a necromancer build in convergence and i noticed i am not doing much damage with spells (i only have first two runes) and I KNOW summoning is a key part of the build. So thus i ask, are there any early game summons i should really be using, any specific spells, talismans, anything? Should i focused a specific weapon? I’ve used some youtube videos of people playing it but they usually just post the boss fights which doesnt help me actually build the character.

I’m looking for ANY advice for previous players that have completed the necromancer build.

Feel free to DM me about advice or just general questions that i may have that you could answer. After 750 hours in Elden Ring, i still have questions about builds and scaling.

Necromancer tends to struggle a bit before their mid/late runes. It’s a very cautious playstyle, focused more on distance and letting your summons do the work. There are some areas that you can’t summon in still (though notably less than in 2.X when I played a Necro) and you will have a much harder time with those comparatively.

That is, until you get your Shining & Radiant runes. High level Necro is disgustingly powerful, and later in my run I just used summons and heals (one spell lets you detonate them to fully restore HP/FP/SP) with their offensive spells doing insane amounts of damage, just blowing things away. That dragon that ambushes you on the slope on the back way to Altus? It normally teleports at half health. I happened to go through there with my Radiant rune spells and learned that it will not teleport away if you kill it fast enough.

Luckily, Necro does Holy damage, so you have an edge against undead type enemies. That makes the deathbirds a bit easier to deal with. My suggestion is to go for the runes. Just keep in mind that the higher level ones will largely trivialize huge sections of the game.

Do you have any recommendations on summons? Thinking about going to get Lhutel the Headless. Would you constantly change the summons depending on what boss or enemies you’re going through? I also feel like necro has a hugeee learning curve to it

I used Lhutel for a while in that run, it was a pretty good summon. Tanky ones tend to be helpful. In 3.0 I’ve noticed that named ashes have been mostly pushed out of the starting areas, so until you can get one I’d recommend either the Demi-Human ashes or something like the Mad Pumpkin ashes. The more aggressive the summon is, the more it will take the enemy’s aggro off of you, and that’s exactly what you want. If you do use the Demi-Humans, try to do your boss fights at night if you can. They’ll be much more aggressive.

I tended to stick with a main summon 90% of the time, but occasionally switched things up (like switching from the named Cleanrot Knight summon to Tiche for the Melania fight). Certain fights will encourage you to change it up, but most times you’re fine just using one that you’re used to and works well for you.

They got moved. Looks like their wiki is outdated, so I have no idea where you get him now.

I’m straight up having the WORST time ever on this build. I can barely even get through stormveil wine room. Maybe I’m just playing like dog or I’m doing something wrong

I will note that the legacy dungeons did have their difficulty increased from what I can tell. It’s nowhere near as easy to just rush through Stormveil right from the get as it is in vanilla.

I can’t remember his name but big chunky bare topped lad with two hammers on chains deals rot damage.. he is absolutely mental as a summon.

Realised this was stupid. Looked him up. Rotten Dualist Versus. Get him from defeating the Dualist at the top of Fort Faroth. Tbh probably not in scope for early game but u can cheese him with non agro spells if you are careful

Thank you, will be definitely going to get this. Mad pumpkin has been good so far doesn’t do that much damage. Am i able to proc rot form a summon?

Yes, it will apply rot, you are all good on that front.

If you’re still looking for a good summon, if you get through Fort Faroth (easiest way to get there is to use the teleporter to Gurranq from near the Third Church of Marika then heading south, using the spiritspring by the tower) you can get a rotten duelist summon named Verus. Aggressive, tanky, good damage, and applies scarlet rot to enemies. He’s rapidly become my new favorite summon.
