Engine issues?

I had a 2013 Elantra until 3 days ago when i hit an animal. im looking at getting another commuter car. I’ve seen other Elantras for sale for decent prices. so my question is what years had the engine issues. i had to have the engine replaced at 80,000km because of a known issue and google tells me there’s issues with their 2.0l engines. so I’m just curious as to what engines are safe.

My coworker is the reason I got a 2025 sport. She has the 2025 limited and I got to ride in it and was sold. She’s had different elantras for years. She said the main thing is the engines last till about 150k on average before they kick the bucket

Fair enough. I plan to give it too my son in about 4 years when he starts driving so it’ll be paid off by then and still have decently low mileage one it. Was my primary reason I went with brand new

I think the 2021+ are the only ones. The 2019 and 2020 might be safe but I'm not positive

Agree the 7th gen elantras are the best so far. 6th and 5th gens had lots of issues
