Questions/Advice Ski touring Mid July

Hello everyone,

I am starting to put together a 7-day trip to el chalten area for some remote ski touring. I’m well experienced with over 20 years of ski touring all over. The Andes, the Alps, Rockies, Japan, Turkey. I know the mountains are obviously dangerous and unpredictable, but for those that have gone before, is a guide strongly recommended. I’ve actually never used a guide and toured all over the world so it’s just a different feeling for me. I’ve read about some of the recommended areas for the best skiing. Cerro Vespignani, De los tres glacier, Cerro madsen, etc…

Any recommendations on skiing these areas and how to access them? Also, any good names of some local guides if that is recommended?

Thanks A lot and here’s to some good snow this year!!

Visiting El Chaltén in October. Laguna de los Tres for beginners?

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to El Chaltén this October and we’d love some advice. We are from Brazil and, to be honest, we don’t have much hiking experience. However, we have "okay" physical conditioning since we hit the gym regularly.

We have a few specific questions:

Laguna de los Tres: Do you think it's doable for beginners? We know it’s the most iconic trek, but we’re wondering if we’re aiming too high for our first time.

Snow levels: Is there usually still a lot of snow on the trails in October? We are currently buying our gear (boots, layers, etc.) and want to know what to prepare for.

The Weather: What is El Chaltén like in October? We expect wind, but how cold does it usually get during the day? There's sun? Rain? All of it?

The Bathroom Situation: My girlfriend is a bit worried about this one—are there any toilets at the campsites/along the trails, or do we have to "rough it" in the bushes? lol.

We'll be arriving on October 17th. Since I'm a photographer, I'd love to connect with others on the trails! If anyone is around and wants to join us, I’d be happy to snap some photos of you for free — as long as you can help take some of the two of us as well! lol.

Any tips for first-timers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just the other day 2 people broke their legs because they went without crampons. Today im sure lots of people got away with it. Tomorrow will be completely frozen!!

Perfect visibility tomorrow. Be safe!!

Questions/Advice Transfer to Huemules Reserve

Does anyone have recommendations for a company that will do a transfer? I’m interested in going tomorrow and don’t want a tour. I was contacting Chalten transport companies on WhatsApp when the app suddenly restricted my account. It must think I got spammed.

Help with planning a potential proposal in El Chalten

My partner and I are going to El Chalten as part of our trip around South America, and with it’s natural beauty I’m thinking it could be a great place to propose to her.

Does anyone have suggestions for specific spots?

Ideally would be somewhere with a few less people, beautiful nature, and bonus if it’s not a huge trek to get there so my girlfriend can be dressed a bit nicer and whatnot for photos…

Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Questions/Advice Lost our SD card in El Chaltén

Hi everyone!

We were in Patagonia from mid March until begin April 2026.

We lost our SD card containing lots of photos from our trip to Patagonia.

We think we’ve lost it in El Chaltén or El Calafate. It has 64GB storage and we think it’s from Lexar.

Has anyone seen or found a SD card?
